Congratulations Democrats! You just made it about 100x harder for every single one of your candidates in states with constitutional amendments that ban same sex marriage (35 or so) to gain the support of states which fully support gay rights (6 or so). Did you all fail at math? Its one thing to state this in your platform (which is an amazingly awesome thing), but it is one completely different thing to do anything about it. To do anything about it you need to actually have people in office and you just made that greatly more difficult in 3/4 of the country.

Look, I get that Log Cabin has sent out it’s trolls to attack ANYTHING that would paint the Dems as supportive of gay rights….we get it, we really do, you’ve put your affilation with the party that hates us ahead of civil rights.
Your comment merely points out that, if you are right, this party is willing to put rights, and what is right ahead of politicial interest. And if you are not right, it just underlines the fact that you continually have posted on all stories, attacking the Democrats.
But the fact is, Obama came out in support of Gay Marriage a while ago. DADT was repealed by the Dems, and yet they are still polling ahead of the GOP nationally. After coming out in favor of gay marriage, let me repeat, the Dems are still polling ahead.
So, nice try troll. You go and bow and scrape to the bigots.
To take a page from those alien beings known as conservative gays, “I don’t agree with everything my party does, but I support them”.
I don’t agree with everything the Dems do – I believe they should be more radical, more in your face, more confrontational. But days like these make me proud to be a Democrat. We queers are finally finally at the center of the debate. Instead of being told, “your time will come” and “we know you’re angry, but you can’t vote for anyone else”, the Dems are finally giving us a real seat at the table. We’ve f*cking earned it!
It seems like a risky move, but it will energize the base – the people who put Obama in the White House and will put him there again.
Woo-hoo! Let’s go get ‘em!
Like the Republicans, the platform in reality boils down to more lie-based wars, more poverty, and more erosion of civil liberties.
Keep buying into that 2party system charade.
@Cam: You could not be more wrong. I am a life long Democrat. I’ve been voting for 15 years, and in that time I have voted for one Republican (and that was because the Democrat that was running for re-election for prosecutor was the one who put Anthony Harris in a juvenile detention center on an illegally obtained confession that she should have known was illegal. The case received national attention.
As a lifelong Democrat, I know how hard this will make it in many areas in this country. In many small towns across the nation, this will be a major problem for all of the Democrat officials. This should have never been done. Supporting gay rights privately is a great thing. Announcing it to the country was a very stupid idea.
@Cam: Obama is polling ahead NATIONALLY. Do I need to explain civics to you. I’m pretty sure I do not. I even made the point that the vast majority of the country is not anti-gay, but the vast majority of the states are. In order for Obama to win he needs to gain the support of the vast majority of the states not the vast majority of the public. I would rather not see another Al Gore situation where Obama wins the popular vote and Mitt Romney carries the electoral college.
Hey Old man, if you want to stay in the closet, play nice and hope that the haters will soon smile at you condescendingly, that is your choice.
But that also makes you somewhat of a loser. just saying…

The voters that would dismiss a Democrat candidate because of the party stance on gay marriage were never going to vote for us anyway, for a whole host of other reasons, including abortion, gun control, welfare, affirmative action, the list goes on and on. The ones that really are single-issue voters are against gays, period, not just gay marriage, and gay rights have been part of the platform for years.
If you can show me a single person who says they are actually CHANGING their vote based on a single line of the platform supporting gay marriage, I’ll show you a liar.
