Jacqui Smith Banned Mike Savage From UK, But Has A Scandal of Her Own

The public release of the United Kingdom's official Do Not Enter list, which included the name of radio host bigot Mike Savage, isn't the only scandal for Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. She's being fingered for unethically changing her official "second home" — the residence they spend the least number of nights at, while having a "main home" to live in during official government business — then charging taxpayers for mortgage costs and renovations, as well as laborers and food.

And then there's the non-scandal the British tabloids love: Smith charged taxpayers for two X-rated movies she says her husband watched, though she did repay the fees.

Plenty of folks agree: Smith's days are numbered. And Mike Savage will plan a special show when she makes her exit!

Urgh, please who cares??

The Conservative party (will) want to get back into power. ALL our papers are pretty right wing-owned by Murdoch plus even the lefty papers like the guardian/indie are fed up with 'new' labour.

If anyone watches any parliament debates, the Conservatives never own up to their policies because they want to cut, cut, cut and IF people (lay man) knew this, they WOULD NOT get it-many people remember Thatcher…so they've been creating x amount of media scandals and tales to divert the lay man from wondering what they will actually do?

The UK media are game because they are right wing (and small) and the the lefty media are just pissed off that G Brown has let them down, so they are being petulant.

Top off with the fact that Jaqui Smith is a women…and now you join up the dots.

I'm not condoning what she did….but come on??

It's not censorship; the British government is not, and indeed cannot, prevent Savage from saying whatever he wants. It's simply saying that they are not going to admit into their country someone who says hateful, vile things that they believe induce violence. It's no different than Germany not allowing Holocaust deniers entry into their country. And Savage's threats of suing for defamation are hilarious; he'll never file a lawsuit because doesn't want his statements to be laid bare for all to see.

In the UK there are many reasons to disagree with Smith and/or dislike her. But banning Michael Savage isn't one of them. Even the really right-wing commentators in Britain have had a hard time criticising her – not least because no-one in the UK has the slightest idea who Savage is and will generally take the Government's word that he's a nasty piece of work who has no place in the country. It's not censorship because Savage can still say whatever the hell he wants and anyone in the UK who wants to hear it can still do so. He just can't say it in front of Buckingham Palace.

What a bunch of leftist buffoons you people are!

Have you no concept what freedom of speech is about? Have you ever even listened to Michael Savage?

I don't listen to him because I don't like his shouting tirades, but a bigot? You don't know the meaning of the word. Savage is not demeaning to any race or gender or religion. He is outraged by those who use race and gender to procure privilege and shield themselves from failure and fault. He is angry at religious extremists who want to murder people like you and me. He has never incited, condoned, or celebrated murder. He stands for law, justice and the preservation of American values and culture.

The way you casually dismiss Smith's heinous affront to civil rights. Her conflation of views she finds personally finds offensive with violent intent is despicable.

And you are mentally ill for defending her.
