Jake Gyllenhaal’s Brokeback Mountain Still Makes For Ripe Country Music Awards Hahas

[flv:http://media.queerty.net/cmajake.mp4 http://www.queerty.com/wp/docs/2011/04/blakereba1.jpg 650 400]

Because of MTV’s Britney Spears special, a number of you were probably not watching last night’s Country Music Awards on CBS. Which means you missed co-hosts Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire joking about Miley Cyrus. Oh, and Jake Gyllenhaal being a homogay. Get it?! Because he was in Brokeback Mountain?! Bottoming?!

Attempting to outshine the disaster that was the pairing of James Franco and Anne Hathaway, Blake and Reba engaged in this exchange:

Blake: “Eric Church has a big hit this year about ‘Smoke a Little Smoke.’ I heard it was about Miley Cyrus.”

Reba: “Don’t make jokes about Taylor Swift. If you make her mad, she’ll write a song about you.”

Reba then talked about how puzzled she is about the men who have ended romantic relationships with Taylor, specifically actor Jake Gyllenhaal, saying, ‘What [was he] thinking anyway?” Blake‘s response: “Wait a minute. He was in ‘Brokeback Mountain.’”

Blake: (after Reba noted that Carrie Underwood‘s husband, professional hockey player Mike Fisher, was traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Nashville Predators) “You know who else traded husbands this year? LeAnn Rimes.”

Blake: (noting the huge size of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas) “I bet it would take Charlie Sheen 12 years to trash every room in here.” When Reba commented that she thought they had agreed to avoid Charlie Sheen jokes, Blake said, “That’s not a joke.”

Throwing in gay jokes in the same bit that you include LOLs about drug users is normally the territory of the Family Research Council.

      Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire are inbred, hillbilly hicks. Why would anyone be surprised at their slackjawed stupidity. Reba McEntire is gross looking. When did she mutilate her redneck face like that?

      It is funny how many times people make jokes about country stars, yet they say a joke about gays and God forbid! It wasn’t even that big of a deal, or that mean. Don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house.
      I have nothing against gays or country stars, but it is hypocritical to make fun of them for making fun of gays.

      @SteveC: I can’t comment on Blake, but Reba has been supportive of gays and gay rights, if not explicitly so.

      TheRealAdam – if it looks like a redneck hillbilly, walks like a redneck hillbilly and talks like a redneck hillbilly, then the chances are high that it is a redneck hillbilly. The joke was not funny. It was not that offensive but what type of lazy moron does the CMA hire to write a joke so old? And what type of lazy moron is Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire (and the redneck audience who bust a gut laughing) not to say ‘Hey this joke sucks, I’m not saying that.’

      As for Reba McEntire’s alleged pro-gay sensibilities, let’s hear her own quote about marriage equality:

      “I can’t judge that. I have gay friends who have partners, and I see why they would want to get married. I understand why. So, I can’t judge that.”

      That is just a dressed up ‘No comment’.

      Reba McEntire is no Dolly Parton who is a true ally. Reba wants the gays to keep buying her sclocky muzak, but at the same time doesn’t want to alienate her redneck base by, gosh, supporting equality.

      Reba McEntire’s face appears to be melting. That’s what cheap, plastic surgery does to you.

      The trouble with (any of) these jokes is that…. they’re lame. They’re so beyond not funny and with the gyllenhaal one seemed geared to make a haha about homos to (lets face it) a more right wing, conservative audience.

      The joke was unnecessary and unfunny. Not being a huffy-pants, no-fun homo in saying that. It was just lame.

      “I have nothing against gays or country stars, but it is hypocritical to make fun of them for making fun of gays.”

      WTF? Are you for real? Basically what you are saying is that it’s perfectly OK for them to poke fun at gays, but if gays do it right back they’re the hypocrites?! Honey, if it’s OK for them to make fun of us, we have every right to throw it right back in their faces. That’s not being hypocritical. So suck it, Kate. =D

      @KATEISSTUPID

      Did you even read what she said? All she said was that you can’t be mad at them for making jokes about gays and then turn around and make jokes about country stars. It makes you look like just as much of an ignorant ass. You either need to lighten up and take it for what it was- a very outdated and lame joke or you need to stop making fun of them. You can’t have both.

      @Mr. Enemabag Jones

      Just because someone likes country music, it doesn’t mean they are ignorant or conservative. I will admit that a large portion of their fan base is conservative but it doesn’t mean they all are. It is unfair to class them all together. I like country music. Does that make me ignorant? I also like classic rock. Does it make me a dead head?

      Wow Queerty, do you guys even bother to read eachother’s post?

      Last week it was Queerty’s JD who labeled Jake, in all caps, HOMOGAY, adding a “AMIRIGHT?”

      And now you take after another who DOES NOT use the label HOMOGAY rather refers to the question by reminding us that Jake starred in Brokeback Mountain.

      Double standard much Queerty? AMIRIGHT?

      @SteveC: I don’t think you’re giving her enough credit. My only point was that attacking her and her background isn’t the best response to her lame jokes, and that she isn’t necessarily the enemy, so it’s unwarranted to begin with.

      I also don’t think it’s fair that terms like “redneck hillbilly” are thrown around at white people, but derogatory racial terms are considered off limits when it comes to people of color. I find the double standard appalling.

      1) The only genre of music besides country that has more closeted gay male singers is hip hop.

      2) Taylor Swift has dated countless closeted Hollywood stars. She is the biggest beard in Hollywood which leads me to believe she’s a lesbian.

      3) I would rather listen to country music than Brittney Spears, or any other pop music, any f’n day. However, I got to admit my favorite type of guy is a redneck so it helps digging country music…

      There is a difference in making an anti-gay joke and making a joke about a celebrity who is pretty widely rumored to be gay. How is this different than when Kathy Griffin makes all sorts of jokes about Tom Cruise & John Travolta? This is hardly the first time somebody has alluded to Jake being gay. There are lots of blogs and blind items about him having contracted girlfriends to appear straight.

      Brokeback Mountain is code for anti-gay in the knuckle-dragging country set. Reba is just courting her followers, the same as when she made the joke about the Dixie Chicks a few years back. I’ve never figured out why the gays support her.
