With Tammy Faye Bakker dead and buried, son Jay Bakker will probably have a pretty lonely Mother's Day weekend But, wait! What's that? There are gays in need of Bakker-patented preaching? Hoo-rah!
Bakker's currently in Texas petitioning anti-gay preacher man Joel Osteen to join a "non-traditional family" picnic this Saturday. Bakker says he wants to do two things: one, honor his mother and, two, praise Jesus. At least one of things is really gay.
I want to celebrate my mother's life and help spread the message she lived and preached. We need to stop thinking of ourselves as 'us' and 'them.' We hope the families of Lakewood Church will open their hearts and minds to us and sit down and have a conversation and share a meal… Let's put our differences aside and share the love and hope of Christ.
Bakker also hopes he can persuade Olsteen to speak up for the gay folk. If Osteen refuses - well, it's time to bring out the big guns: the ghost of Tammy Faye. That's one spirit you don't want to feel!

I have never heard Joel Osteen make anti gay remarks. I did see an interview with him where he was aked if being gay was a sin, and he replied that all people are sinners.
There is an article from Nov. 6, 2007. It has the transcript from an interview with John King on CNN. Olsteen clearly equates being gay with being a drug addict. He states that gays can be helped.

They turned a huge effing basketball arena into their church. And filled it with huge plasma screen teevees so everybody can get an upclose look at Joel and his batshit insane wife and co-pastor. It's the religion that tells people Jesus wants them to be rich.

Praising an invisible man in the sky like he would give a shit about us primates, due to be extinct in 2 million years.. The man who never lived, Jesus,, loves us the same way he loved flesh eating dinosaurs, crocodiles, and sharks.
Tammy did a great job raising that boy.
Tammy Faye Bakker was an absolutely inspirational person, and it looks like some of that has rubbed off on her son.
Kudos to Jay Bakker for taking on such a progressive and Jesus like stance.
The article mentioned above in comment number 2 takes Osteen's remarks totally out of context. That's why an apology was never issued.
I have heard Joel Osteen say he doesn't care if people are gay, straight, pink or purple… he invites them to worship.
I do, however, encourage Osteen to attend the picnic.
Jay came out for the gays long before his mother died. He's a prince.
