Oh, cute. Wanda Sykes is just recently out of the closet (to the public anyway) and like all newbie gays, she’s got herself plastered in Pride paraphernalia. Truth is we never associated “Wanda Sykes” with “heartwarming”, but in this clip of her appearance last night on The Tonight Show, we want to sign her up for the Teddy Bear a Day Club or something. There’s never a wrong way to choose to come out, but we think that Sykes decision to speak up at the National Day of Impact Rally was an especially powerful one and done for all the right reasons.

Completely agree with the posts. Wanda is an incredible individual that I’ve admired her comedic talent for years. She has never hidden who she is and just because she never said “I’m gay” to a camera doesn’t make her any less important to the gay world, nor to the world in general.
You want to pick on someone, go check in on that Ed Westwick guy who goes to a gay bar with his “girlfriend/costar.” Now there is someone who is disengenuous.

plus wanda’s not newly out, she’s been out in her stand up. she’s not a newbie, she lives a gay life. plus surely it’s positive to have someone as well liked as she is saying good things about being gay on a mainstream show. although you acknowledge this, you seem reluctant.

Hmm, I didn’t read it to being mean or anything. I think its funny when anyone of note comes out that they like to show it with things like the ‘fist’ t-shirt that she’s wearing too. I don’t see it as a problem, just kind of funny to note. And I really hope Japhy wasn’t writing it that way. Give him a chance? And I agree with him, that this was a great point and time and reason for her to come out publicly and state her position and feelings (and talk about her personal life).
And also a requisite “lets all get along even if we disagree” request…can we have discussions without instantly jumping to conclusions and getting angry at everyone? If I had read the post to be mean at all I like to think I would ask about it, but not get nasty really quickly. Whether I really would have or not is another thing, but I would like to think I would have tried to be a bit reasonable. Hopefully I won’t get attacked for asking for some moderation from folks.
