Of course Republican lawmakers in New Jersey want the issue of same-sex marriage put to a ballot vote among citizens — with the option to approve a constitutional ban! — rather than having those activist Democrats pass a marriage bill during November’s post-Election Day lame duck session. Then again, marriage equality advocates would favor the same thing if the tables were turned, yah? Either way, Gov. Jon Corzine is advocating for gay marriage … decided by legislators. Well, he’s doing that now, because he would really love it if you’d re-elect him, thank you very much.
what stinks?

If I were still a New Jersey resident, Gov. Jon Corzine would certainly get my vote.

What about putting religious choices up for a vote?
Does NJ have an initiative process?

Hey I got a swell idea guys!!!! Lets just all sit back and watch how many of the rightwing-nutbag politicians who are pressing to deny us the right to marry are found out to either:
A:Be diddling a female prostitute
~~~~~~~~~~~~~OR~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B:Be diddling a boy
ARRGUUUGGGHHHH………Nothing gets me more pissed than these scumbags. They can’t pick on Latinos, Blacks, Women, Asians, or any other minority except us with impunity. And the ones who spew the most poo out of their mouths are always the ones found out to be making a mockery out of their own marriges. Recently heard that Vito (2 famlies) Fossella is trying to re-enter the political arena. You must remember scumbag Vito, The guy who refused to go to any of his family gatherings because HIS LESBIAN SISTER would be there with her Lover. He claimed his attending his own famlies gatherings would be an “disrespecting the institution of marriage” due the presence of a same-sex couple. Meanwhile this scumbag married in Staten Island with three young boys had another family in DC! This little nugget of information was discovered when he was pulled over for DWI. And the same Repugnatican rightwing-nutbags on Staten Island who scream about Gay marriage are interviewed saying “Vito has dealt with this issue and has shown remorse” “we would love him to represent us again”……….Can’t get enough of the Repugnatican “family no-values”………….
@terrwill: Well said TERRWILL.
It’s just so sickening the level of hypocrisy coming out of the party of “family values”and their “Christian” beliefs. If the Repugnant party would stay out of people’s lives and be neutral on social issues they might just have a chance even though they’re presently bankrupt of ideas. That’s just wishful thinking. Red state or Blue state Republicans are all the same.
Ted B.
It’s just a ploy to gain support from traditionally-Democratic Catholics and Evangelical/Fundementalist Blacks and Hispanics in a swing-state general election by fringe-elements of the NJ GOP. There’s always been a red-meat faction within the GOP at the local level that historically been funded by anti-abortion/anti-gay-anything. Like the Democrats gay-wing, the politicians stir-up their emotions and fill the party coffers with grand promises that get no-where other than on the News since they don’t have the political-mass even within the Party establishment to actually pass anything. It’s just street-theater to gain support and money, not an actual threat.
If you’re in NJ and want to stop them; don’t support the Democrats, support the GOP moderates who actually have legitimate cross-over political potential and who actually CAN get elected.
In NJ only the Governor is elected state-wide, and the State-level party organization and leaders are very politicaly-weak. Politics and governance is dominated by local county-level politics…including who sits in the State House chambers and controls the very-powerful legislative committees.
This is nothing but an obvious attempt by the state GOP to bring the conservatives to the voting booth next month, particularly in light of recent polls showing Corzine catching up to Christie.
As for polls, while it isn’t voting, several polls in NJ have shown increased public support for gay marriage, like 50%.
Not that the GOP cares about polls, unless they are in their favor.
And in closing, Christie is a Rush Limbaugh clone who bears no relation to the well respected former GOP governors of our state, who got elected because they were moderates (e.g., pro-choice, etc.)
With the amount of votes coming out of Newark and Jersey City to the north and the suburbs of Philly to the south there is no way someone like Chris Christie will be elected. The guy is a Bush crony, more tax cuts for the rich and complete disregard for women and minority rights. He will veto a same-sex marriage bill in a heart beat.
