Aging comedian Joan Rivers failed at trying to remain relevant again this week, taking a low blow at President Obama and the First Lady with a dated “joke” that unsurprisingly fell flat on a New York City sidewalk.
Just a day after officiating a marriage between two men at her book signing in Union Square’s Barnes & Noble, Rivers was caught by a photographer on the street who asked: “Do you think the United States will see the first gay president or the first woman president?”
The 81-year-old, who once said referring to Michelle Obama as “Blackie O” Is not racist, replied: “We already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down. You know Michelle is a tranny!” When asked for clarification, she said “[Michelle is] a transgender. We all know.”
Rivers has managed to stay in the news during the last year thanks to her penchant for using deeply offensive slurs, but also because she’s a terrible employer. More than one year after the dedicated Fashion Police writing staff demanded a raise from their pennies-only paycheck, she continues to ignore their request for a meeting.

She seemed….under medicated… Regardless of the offensive term….the actual structure of the joke was terrible! I love this woman, she’s a pioneer, she’s constantly pushing the envelope. She’s done amazing things for the LGBTQ community. I expect if she’s gonna go for a topic and subjects like this that the joke at least be good.

Joan has never been funny to me. Her sense of humor is offensive, abrasive in bad taste and always aimed at other people. Time for her to shuffle off to the old folk’s home. She has the stupidity of Michele Bachmann and the hate of Sarah Palin.

Looks like some people need Summers Eve. Was the joke tired and boring? Yes, but good work often takes time and effort. Was it offensive? Most likely, and that’s why its supposed to be funny.
Joan is my life-long favorite. She has her ups and downs, but much like her support for us, my love for her will remain strong.
And yes, before you ask, I still support Tracy Morgan despite his, to me, boring and outdated gay jokes.

What’s the point of endless rounds of plastic surgery if the end result leaves you looking like Jack Nicholson’s joker without the make-up on? Is that youthful? Is that her idea of beauty?
The ultimate joke is that Joan Rivers somehow managed to segue her fading relevance into a gig criticizing other people’s lives.
I find it highly unlikely any of the myriad of people she’s needlessly attacked would ever in a million years wish to switch places with her. Far as I’m concerned that’s punishment enough… having to wake up as Joan Rivers everyday, walking in the bathroom and looking at what’s left of that face in the mirror 🙂

Did I miss the ‘joke’ part? All I heard was “Obama is This, Michelle is That”. I actually think some funny tasteless humor could be mined from the substance of what Rivers was saying (since it’s what other tasteless people have been saying), but–unlike with the kidnapped women thing that got everyone outraged (and laughing)–here she seems to have forgotten the part about…again…thinking up actual JOKES.
