A friend just sent us this link from Out Magazine. If you take a few seconds and follow it, you’ll see just how much devotion John Cameron Mitchell (pictured, doing God-knows-what) put into his new movie, Shortbus. Here’s a snippet:
For my Hitchcock cameo I decided to do something I had never done: I ate me some pussy. It didn’t get me hard, but it was better than craft service.
Yikes. If only we were as dedicated to our jobs. Guess that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.
Matt
So this gay director got to eat pussy on the set of his soft core porn?
buzz
actually, it’s hardcore. but i wouldn’t call it porn — the sex is actually fundamental to the story and handled quite well.
Matt
Hopefully this movie will never make it mainstream.
Jonathon
Matt, why not? If there is a mainstream market for this film then I say let them see it.
Given how much money is spent each year on straight porn, I would think that there is indeed a mainstream audience for it.
I am curious to see the film, but I will wait for the DVD.
Matt
Because it is smut. Decent Americans shouldn’t have to watch this crap get promoted. I will give Mr. Mitchell credit. He obviously knows sex sells. No wonder people hate us so much. If we would just fall in line and not push the envelope we could maybe start gaining a little respect in the world other than being called sodomites or queens.

Matt,
Don’t blame the hate from some straight folk on Mitchell and Shortbus. Some folk hate us for a number of reasons and all of them have nothing to do with a film that no one will be forced to see.

it’s always all about pushing the envelope
and this movie was made to do so, and to open peoples eyes, and try to make sex a less sticky subject…
i can’t wait to see it- and i think that everyone should.
…i love pushing the envelope :]

i’ve seen it. and it is SO not smut. are you honestly kidding me? it explores sex and sexuality – i think it’s an important step in a direction that has thus far been tip toed around. The sex in this film isn’t about achieving “the money shot” – or getting the viewer off – it’s about an aspect of most people’s lives that i rarely featured in films in a honest way. It is also about exporing sexual issues that typically aren’t talked about – unable to orgasm/feeling uncomfortable getting fucked/and many other sexual issues that within the “shortbus” world are not looked down on – but are worked to be understood and worked to be over come (in some of the cases) – or even just personally worked to be accepted so as to continue having a sexual life.
oh. and i would LOVE to hear what you definition of “Decent Americans” is. ugh. honestly.
