For the past three years, NOM and ProtectMarriage.com have tried to flout California campaign finance laws by suing to have the names of their donors and campaign financiers exempted from the secretary of state’s website. Their reason? Revealing their names will make them targets for gay harassment—just like these poor angels.
Today a Sacramento judge appointed by George W. Bush told them to cut the shit and denied their lawsuit. Whether that means that NOM can appeal or whether the donor names will pop up anytime soon on the Secretary of State’s website remains to be seen.

Why does it remain to be seen if they can appeal? Of course they can appeal. I know legal reporting is hard for you guys, but you’ve at least got to think it through.

There’s one lady in my office (that I know of) that was dumb enough to put her name & the company she works for on her donation & it showed up on a website… seriously, she’s surrounded by gay people, we all know, but b/c it could create a ‘hostile work environment’ FOR HER (!) no one says a word.

And for some reason it is never mentioned on here that one of the major reasons that NOM doesn’t want the names released is because they are basically an offshoot of the Mormon and Catholic churches and have illegally been funding the organization.

NOM has two other court orders to disclose it’s donor list. Thus far, it has failed to comply. What is the sense of ruling against it if it refuses to do so? Are there penalties for failure to comply?

these people are the scum of the country. raising all that money not to help those in need, not to do the Christ-like thing and get money and provisions to those who’ve lost jobs in this economic crisis, those STILL without a home and work from Katrina, those who just can’t afford medical care….nope. all that money to stop Deb and Sue from marrying.

@Robert in NYC: If it were any other organization? “Contempt of Court” is the charge leveled against such acts — it includes fines and even jail time.
But somehow the laws of the United States don’t apply to NOM, personally they rank right up there with terrorists with the total disregard/disdain for they hold for this country’s legal system EXCEPT WHEN IT SUITS THEM.

@Little Kiwi, it’s because they are working to enforce and impose the beliefs and teachings of The Church onto the whole country and within each individual State. It’s a little known fact that (and Maggie testifies to this beautifully) that one can demonstrably LIE, but the Church excuses it if that lie in some way is of value to The Church. This is why Maggie is able to lie so easily without a thought on TV.

Actually the fact that she did that could also be seen as creating a hostile work environment for the gays that work with her similar to if she was publicly a member of the KKK and worked with black people.
If she makes somebody feel uncomfortable, they should report her to HR, then if they say that there is no proof she is a bigot, all they have to do is point to her donation.
She wouldn’t be fired, but it would be on record if in the future she ever fired or harassed a gay employee inappropriately.

FYI it is against the law in California for an employer to retaliate against an employee for political activities outside of work. Harassing her could cause big problems for the company. While some might feel better harassing her, setting her up to win a lawsuit just might give her even more money to donate, which is counterproductive.
BTW, the same law prevents a Mormon employer for retaliating against an employee who donated to the “No on Eight” side.

I am gay and i was against gay marriage.
My reasons are:
1. Gay relationship is not a natural relationship and there is no children behind it.
2. Such a gay, i don’t like gay sex but i practice it. I’m sick and i believe this is a wrong choice in sex orientation.
3. Children have rights in education and love from father and mother not two fathers!!!
4. If we regulate the matter of gay marriage what will do women? thrown on windows.
My conclusions, although i have no motivation to do sex with women but i am 100% against gay marriage and against gay rights, i am confused about this but i really think that when i am gay i must hide my self sex orientation and act like a straight person in front of people.
All gays who do not this will have got a problems of discrimination and will feel more guilty and will reduce probability that they turn as normal people.
The facts show that people who reveal their homosexual orientation in most cases they fall in depression and get cornered in small corner by society and this is normal when “homosexual” is not normal. Also many who commits suicide have many problems relating with depression still gayness.
This is my advice. If you are gay don’t show that to people , try to hide it and do not have many partners that you became like a bitch or prostitute.
