Adult film star Mike Dozer (AKA Christopher Steele) was just handed a 17.5 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old boy.
Dozer met the boy on the hookup app Jack’D three years ago and was believed to be aware of the boy’s age prior to hooking up with him. He was arrested in December 2013 on federal charges of statutory rape, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault.

But his legal woes are still far from over.
In a separate state trial that is still underway, he also confessed to exposing the boy to HIV without telling him. Pennsylvania law classifies this as first degree “Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse.” Sentencing in that trail is still pending.

I’ve lived through the age of consent in the UK being 21, then 18, it’s now 16, with the likelihood it will drop to 15 in the next few years. I’ve spent time in many other countries where it’s always been 14-15 and still is.
I was enjoying sex from the age of 13 onwards, often with older partners, despite the law. I also doubt any minimum age of consent anywhere has ever stopped a paedophile from committing crimes, it often appears that such laws just end up criminalising the very people they’re supposed to protect.
There certainly should be laws in place to prevent coercion, especially from people in authority, incentivisation, etc. but I honestly can’t get excited over a 14 year old putting themselves out there looking for sex and getting it. I did the same.
I get the impression there’s almost a religious puritanism in America that sees consensual sex almost as a vice, like smoking and drinking, something to be barely tolerated whilst attempts are made to try and stamp it out entirely!

I get the argument that the age of consent should be lowered and is lowered in other nations, but this is America and the law is as is. I was molested at 13 by a man in a gym sauna. I looked up at a 45 year old grungy man and realized that this was wrong by my morals, my family’s morals, and by the government.

I do not care that I entered that sauna willingly, the fact is that that man was 45 and I was 13. Whether or not you think that kid was looking for rough Dozer sex or not, being physically ready and psychologically ready for sex are two very different things. So take your hand off your dick, stop defending him, and think about the situation.

Trust me, I get the whole “socially constructed reality” thing. I’m an anthopology Masters student. My point is is that this is how Anerican society is, and we can’t just throw that to the wind because a grown hot man wants to have sex with an eager young boy. Sex isn’t sinful, if the two people consent. I was definitely not of the age to give consent. And maybe that is just me, but you also can’t make rules for individuals. In American society, we coddle our children, it’s what we do. I have Croatian cousins who have been having sex with grown men since they were 14, but is that right? Who mandates what the appropriate age of consent should be? Are they right to have the legal age of 15?
In America, our societal rules are as is because we don’t think of children as adults until 18. Regardless of whether that is right or not, that has strong emotional and psychological effects on kids. I can’t say if this kid was ready for sex or not, but I can say that myself and a ton of other people who had sexual relations with people much older when we were young were traumatized for years. In American society, what he did to an American kid, is wrong.

OK, I honestly have no vested interest in the argument of lowering the age of consent in the USA, even when I was a twink myself at 13, and my sexual partners were the same age, I was gagging to get to grips with a Lex Barker style Tarzen. I am, however, delighted and grateful that there were men in their twenties and thirties who were happy to have sex with me long before I turned 18.
To my mind, if you’re old enough to get a job, drive a car or join the army, you’re certainly old enough to get laid, so 16 at the highest seems reasonable to me. I’ve truly never seen or heard of any issues in countries where I’ve lived where it’s lower, 14 in Spain, 15 in France, etc. I also noticed in Scandinavia that 14-16 year olds were outspoken about sex in front of their elders, and I thought then that probably ensures that coercion is much less likely to happen, given that there’s an absence of fear in speaking up about any issues surrounding sexual relationships amongst the young.
I’m not convinced that locking Dozier away for 18 years is warranted. Here in the UK, murder and manslaughter rarely generates such sentences, and drunk drivers who kill other people in car crashes often get away with just a few years in gaol, so his sentence does seems punitive to my eyes.

@Tobi: I don’t want to argue on this chain either, but I want to make my point clear. I grew up with these stringent rules about sex, as do the majority of American kids. It’s definitely not healthy, but it’s how we are raised. Breaking the social moral code then had a lot of unforeseen consequences that this kid will almost certain have to go through as well. An American man should understand these constraints and not go after a child. Period.
I don’t think 18 years is necessary, and he definitely got it worse since he’s a gay porn star. But he definitely deserves a few. And just a thought- manslaufhter and murder should generate large jail sentences, so here we can see a difference. Apparently the US sex laws are behind the world’s yet the UK’s punishments for murder are seemingly laxed. Different codes for different countries. Which is right?

In cases where a 12 year old commits a murder he/she is usually tried as a juvenile and punished accordingly (based on state law). Usually placed in facility until 18th birthday.

A little conversation usually turns out these underage kids on the social apps. They’ll usually tell you the truth eventually. I’ve seen guys as young as 12 on them, and promptly reported them. Their accounts were usually inactive about a day or so later.
The most stupid incident I recall was a 14 year old who, in the middle of the night, wanted to hook up with me (50yo) in the middle of nowhere, rural Indiana, smoke weed, and have car sex.
There should be some legal consequences for these underage kids. Most of them are getting into situations that are way beyond their maturity level. They need to know there are legal consequences to lying on these apps, as well as the potential of getting abused, gang raped, kidnapped, or killed. Don’t have any statistics but how many gay kids just go missing in this country. So many “run away” because their parents aren’t accepting, it’s easy to conjecture that some of these have been used and thrown by the side of the road dead.

So while I’m sure there are those minors who lie about their age, its still up to the adult to be cautious if it seems like they may be under 18. I’d ask for ID and take a picture of it with my phone in case it was a fake just so I had evidence. Yes, I do understand now how you have your sensibilities shaped at allowing 9 year old girls and 12 year old boys the legal ability to give the “Consent” to have sex. I UNDERSTAND how YOU shaped YOUR sensibilities, but I will never understand YOUR LOGIC.
