It was a bigger deal to everyone than it was for me. But at the same time I do understand why it is something to talk about. I didn’t talk to Ellen so that people could, be like ‘oh my God, let’s see what Jussie does in his bedroom in his private life.’ But I did talk to her so that people understood that they’re not alone. That’s all.”
— Empire star Jussie Smollet discussing the impact of his in an interview with Variety

I’m not so sure about all of that. I’m glad he came out, though, for whatever reason.
juliansorl
Why not a single post about the D & G controversy?
Bauhaus
@juliansorl:
I agree. Not a word.
Bauhaus
@juliansorl:
Although, I put ol’ Bob LaBash on notice about them. Terrible homosexuals, they are. Throw all of their trash away, self-respecting gay men. Cologne, accessories, clothes… All of it, if you have any. Same as boycotting any other homophobic as*hole company.
Bob LaBlah
@Bauhaus: This “LaBash” fellow you spoke of: is he related to the LaBlah’s from western Oklahoma? I still ain’t got mah’ glasses fixed yet. When they fell outta’ mah’ top overall pocket the left lens rolled under the still and Lord knows with that special batch brewing and grandma’ and her club…………………but anyway, I always look for family members who scattered to the four winds. The way my family split you would think we were…….I doubt even THEIR families were as “split up” as mine got. Not too long ago my neighbors two holler’s down wind used to call us the local…….well, I’m sure you put two and two together and it AINT coming out to five either.
The few me and my sister/aunt have found (that didn’t break our eardrums hanging up AS we explained the family linkage) are quite hostile; telling us to stay the hel………………………….
Bauhaus
@Bob LaBlah:
He’s one and the same. Now, if you’d ditch those fake D&G lenses, as I advised, perhaps you wouldn’t have so many issues. Well, less issues with your glasses, anyway.
And another thing. About those hemorrhoids and halitosis you are suffering from. No amount of Preparation H and mouthwash will help in your case. Karma is a much too strong and overpowering force.
Giancarlo85
@Bauhaus: I don’t think you should even try to respond to him. He can’t be real.
Bob LaBlah
@Bauhaus: “And another thing. About those hemorrhoids and halitosis you are suffering from. No amount of Preparation H and mouthwash will help in your case. Karma is a much too strong and overpowering force.”
Remember, always keep comments “current” (as in related to the thread your on, that way we aren’t arguing or “one upping”. Ok hon, you don’t have a pancaked ass and aren’t retired (like me, the retired part) so back to work you go. See you at lunch. Tell everyone at their cubicle as you walk by I said hello and slap ol’ Gi……….
Overall, I am glad he, Jussie, does understand that when people think of gays sooner or later they start thinking of sex acts. He knows that to keep delving into gay, gay ,gay, sooner or later people/someone is going to ask “top of bottom”. Personally, I don’t want to know. But I am sure there are many who can’t sleep unless they just “know”. In last weeks previews for this Wednesday’s show it looks like he and that guy are going to go after each other on top of the desk. Can’t wait till Wednesday. (Hypocritical, I agree. Its the South American effect. I tell you, with as many of them they let come across that bo……).

You bitch when they don’t come out. You bitch when they do come out. Why are you never happy?
mmichael_24
To be honest he didn’t come out because he wanted to he did it because people (mainly gay people) kept pressuring him to.
Bauhaus
@Gigi Gee:
You just bitch, period.
Blackceo
@mmichael_24:
Exactly….which is ashame because he never hid the fact that he was gay. He just didn’t feel the need to announce it. Empire has thrust Jussie into mainstream celebrity status, but anyone who followed him before and people in the business knew he was gay.
Alan down in Florida
Empire is not Jussie’s first gay role. Try looking up the movie The Skinny. Most of you probably missed it because the primary roles were all played by African-American me.
Xzamilio
@Alan down in Florida: I didn’t miss it. It was a terrible movie, though. And I had no idea that was Jussie… and believe me, the realization only lowered my opinion of his acting abilities. I’ll take Jurnee over Jussie in the acting department. But I’ll take Jussie in the hardware department of Sears.
Bob LaBlah
@Xzamilio: “But I’ll take Jussie in the hardware department of Sears.”
And to think I thought I was old and outdated. Surely you mean Lowe’s or Home Depot, don’t you? Or was the reference to Sears aimed at your posterior? (lol)
Xzamilio
@Bob LaBlah: Home Depot? We’re MEN, not lesbians. And besides, I want Jussie to see the softer side of Sear’s… and the harder part of this di–
Curty
People are saying he came out and he hasn’t even said he was gay… just he’s not living in the closet. Not saying he isn’t gay but he hasn’t said he was or isn’t yet.
Franklin
I’m sorry. I must have missed the memo that said Jussie must live his life base on the expectations of other gay folks out there. Has he ever said he’s not gay? Has he ever said anything against gay people? If the answer is no, then let the man live is life. For me, I’m just happy to see a black gay character that actually interacts with other black people become so popular on television.
Blackceo
@Alan down in Florida:
LOL….I caught that low key shade.
@Xzamilio:
Awww…it wasn’t the greatest but I didn’t think it was horrible. I guess I could just relate to it more with this group of Black gay men.
Merv
@Xzamilio: Sears still has a much better hardware department than Lowe’s or Home Depot. Unfortunately, I doubt Sears will be around in ten years.
Xzamilio
@Blackceo: I can’t relate to anything Patrick Ian Polk puts out. He’s like Ryan Murphy in that he takes the gay experience and makes it unbearably campy. Loved Noah’s Arc, though… hate it was cancelled and that Dante’s Cove bullshit lingered on…
Bob LaBlah
@Xzamilio: By chance do you know the real reason why Noah’s Arc was cancelled? It sure as hell couldn’t have been because of the ratings because it was popular even in my neck of the woods.
Xzamilio
@Bob LaBlah: Beats me, man. But I was living for Wade and Noah. And then the “Jumping the Broom” movie was a nice way to end it, but still too rushed together for my tastes.
Kangol
Glad Jussie’s out, however he came out. He was good in The Skinny too. A real cutie with talent!
