Just Because DADT Is Unconstitutional Doesn’t Mean Gay Soldiers Should Come Out

Well, unless you want to risk your career. But that’s brave too! The death of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, declared unconstitutional by federal Awesome Judge Virginia Phillips in California, is actually not complete. If we were watching paint dry — and this whole thing is just as painful — we’d be at the point where the wall looks fantastic, but you still shouldn’t touch it because it’ll smear and get on your clothes. That’s because Phillips gave the Log Cabin Republicans until Sept. 16 to propose language for an injunction, and then granted the government’s lawyers at DoJ seven days after that to counter. But even then Phillips could still stay the decision until all appeals are exhausted. Or she could turn her courtroom into Soul Train and have everyone start dancing in front of the cameras.
