Despite being the political party known for its hard stance against gay rights, a new survey has found a surprising number of Republicans have engaged in same-sex bedroom shenanigans.
A poll by YouGov (the same group that recently found nearly half of Brits between the ages of 18 and 24 years don’t identify as “100 percent heterosexual”) reveals that one third of Americans under the age of 30 identify as straight; however, when asked if they’ve ever done the hanky panky with a member of the same sex, 12 percent of those straight-identifying people said: Yep! They had.
Related: Survey Finds More And More Straight Guys Are Going Gay (And Liking It)
Of that 12 percent, six percent were African-American, 15 percent were Hispanic, and 20 percent were Caucasian. Straight-identifying women reported being almost twice as likely as straight-identifying men to say that they had hooked up with someone of the same sex.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
But where it really gets interesting is when you break the figures down by political party.
12 percent of straight-identifying Republicans admitted to having done the nasty with a member of the same sex, compared to 19 percent of Democrats and 20 percent of Independents. Additionally, 5 percent of straight-identifying Republicans said they’d “definitely” be open to having gay sex if the right person came along.
The takeaway from all this? Well, there are currently 17 Republicans fighting for the 2016 presidential nomination. 12 percent of 17 is two.
Let the guessing games begin.

If you count sucking-up to the lobbyists and their corporate sponsors….. ALL OF THEM.
Cam
@BJ McFrisky:
Actually the article in no way said that it was bad. But it is VERY telling that you. BJ, the person who ALWAYS defends anti-gay bigots as long as they are republicans, feels that pointing out some of them are gay is an insult.
That type of self hatred definitely would explain your unceasing defence of every anti-gay GOP bigot.
Ladbrook
Candidates with a (probable) history of past bi-encounters: Rand, Rubio, maybe Cruz (I’m guessing while in high school), and definitely Rick Perry. Check their staffs to see how many are low-key but out gays who skew toward the Log Cabin crowd. The more you find, and the higher they rank, the more likely their boss is bi… and practicing. (David Dreier, a former congressman from California and very very gay set the standard for this type of staffing.)
Candidates who are most definitely sexually active full-on gay closet cases: Lindsey Graham.

@BJ McFrisky: (sigh) … BJ, why do you make a hobby of seeing (supposed) liberal “hypocrisy” everywhere and you’re unable to notice this?: “Despite being the political party known for its hard stance against gay rights, a new survey has found a surprising number of Republicans have engaged in same-sex bedroom shenanigans.”

SCIENTIFIC STUDY: Lindsey Graham have you done the you-know-what with another boy?
MISS LINDSEY GRAHAM: You mean the hanky panky? With a boy? Well, it is the South here and we had plenty of woods and hot steamy summer days Is somebody bringing me a sweat tea?

better yet, how many of the religious bigots have had gay sex–I suspect quite a few

Given the large number of Republican gay sex scandals, and the uptick in Craigslist/Grindr etc. activity during CPAC… why would you think any of us would be surprised by the answer?

@BJ McFrisky: As other have pointed out you seem to see “liberal” schemes every where. Nothing here suggests any negative connotation other than the simple fact that if someone is busy making speeches against gay rights and if a politician voting against gay civil rights while at the same time engaging in a little same sex hanky panky on the side, then they deserve to be outed for being hypocrites. I do not care if the person is gay, straight, bi or asexual. I do not care if they are Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, or whatever.
The article mentions Republican are 12%, Democrats were 19% and independents were 20%, just how does that in any way say anything negative about Republicans and gay sex?

@onthemark:
Doesn’t change the fact that gay liberals believe the worst thing they can say about a Republican is that he’s attracted to other dudes. C’mon, you know it’s the truth, they do it on this site all the time. I understand that it’s intended as an insult to the target, but it’s always funny/sad/pathetic when the insulter fails to realize he’s condemning the very thing he proclaims to be proud of.
AtticusBennett
@BJ McFrisky: what you mean is, you craving dick makes your conservative dad ashamed of you. and we all know. it’s textbook. stop being upset that gay liberals are out, and the only people more repulsed by you than your own father are other gay men.
gay liberals are merely pointing out the high number of anti-gay republicans who eventually get busted with their lips pressed against a glory hole.
but hey, you need to troll and complain about liberals. it’s your only distraction from a wasted unloved life 😀
happy friday!

@BJ McFrisky: You left out the key clause:
“gay liberals believe the worst thing they can say about a Republican is that he’s attracted to other dudes”… AND he supports anti-gay policies.

Some are closet cases no question about it.
I mean look at the utter repression these men have towards anything regarding sex or sexuality as well as their extreme hatred.
If these people actually knew gay Americans then maybe just maybe that would help them to finally have and show empathy and compassion towards us as human beings.
Or maybe I’m simply waiting for pigs to fly in that regard.

Some of the hottest sex I ever had was near the Norfolk Naval Base with f*ed up Republican fags. There’s MANY of them.
onthemark
@BJ McFrisky: The problem is, unless perhaps the Republican is in one of the New England states (and not too likely even then), he’s ALREADY supporting practically every rabidly anti-gay position that’s coming out of Dixie, or already written into the official national Republican platform. There are hardly any exceptions; they all support that crap.
So when he gets caught in homosexual physical activity (not just “attracted to other dudes,” as you put it), it’s going to look hypocritical. Because it’s hypocritical.
Occasionally there are closeted Democrats but the analogy doesn’t arise because they aren’t supporting anti-gay positions to begin with.
I don’t get why you’re pretending not to understand this.
Btw, is Aaron Schock still hiding at your house? 🙂
NateOcean
“How many ‘straight’ Republican’s have had gay sex?”
I assume all of them.
NateOcean
@BJ McFrisky: No. One of the worst things we can say about gay Republicans is that their closeted attraction to other dudes makes them hypocrites.
BJ McFrisky
@onthemark: The mistake you’re making is that you’re labeling all Republicans homophobes, when only the ones from the religious right are—the rest are mostly indifferent to us. Admittedly, Republican politicians do tend to support the causes pushed by their religious constituents, but you can’t ignore that people like GHW Bush & Dick Cheney are in fact supporters.
No Democrats who support anti-gay causes? Check out senators Kay Hagan, Tom Carper, Mary Landrieu, Joe Manchin, Bob Casey, Bill Nelson, Joe Donnelly . . . just to name a few.
BTW, Aaron wants you to know the only thing he’s guilty of is being fabulous.

Yougov is really more of a marketing company than a professional polling firm – the only scientifically legitimate survey work in the UK is done by the government and some universities. So in the US it would be less Pew and more Zogby, with virtually no quality control over the design of the questions and reliance on cheap internet surveys with low response rates and little attempt at a representative sample. If you dig down into the numbers, the size of the “straight” cohort who have homosexual sex is so small (I’m guessing 20-30 or so) that isn’t even close to statistically valid – much less when broken down by sex, race, party, etc.
Even there prior survey claiming half of UK youth are non-heterosexual was based on a really bad screening question that prompted for a kinsey number (which is meaningless to most people and leads to guessing). Even then, the only shift was in the 0-1 kinsey range, which is just as likely a statistical blip than any useful shift in self-identified orientation, desire or behavior.
Hate to be debbie downer but the gold standard in population surveys in the UK is the British Social Attitudes Survey and like the GSS in the US, the percentages for sexual orientation, same sex behavior and same sex desire have all remained fairly stable over the 30 or so years – 2-4%/6-8%/8-12% for each category, with some slight variations.
Alex Banx
the only way the number would surpise me is if it isn’t all of them!
ppl need to stop being in denial about the fact the bigots are always the biggest closet cases and/or pedophiles.

Mercurical Memo
But… But… But… What happened to fluidity? What of ‘Bro-Jobs’? After all isn’t the science that is perpetually presented by Queerty in regards to the non-existence of homosexuality amongst straight men who occasionally suck each other, legitimate when it comes to those heteros? Why is said credible science not applicable here? Oh right, because Queerty and all the self-loathing homos who endorse that farce that presents itself as science, don’t get their jollies from people like Larry Craig. Fluidity is only applicable to the good looking heteros, not those evil republicans who are just not sexy enough to invest mental gymnastics in order to retain their hetero-flexible BS.
Aaron Shock and these republicans as just as heterosexual as James Franco and the bro-job set. To argue otherwise only exposes the weakness and selectiveness of a convenient argument.
Doug Lia
2 out of 17 candidates…..how is your gaydar??????
Giancarlo85
@BJ McFrisky: Except the overwhelming majority of republicans are homophobes and bigoted assholes. Is this concept so difficult for you to understand?
“No Democrats who support anti-gay causes? Check out senators Kay Hagan, Tom Carper, Mary Landrieu, Joe Manchin, Bob Casey, Bill Nelson, Joe Donnelly . . . just to name a few.”
None of which hold any major position of power.
Wake up kid… the republican party is controlled by anti-gay religious nuts and the overwhelming majority of republicans stand against gay people. This isn’t opinion. It is a fact. Poll after poll proves over 70+% of republicans are against same sex marriage and are even against any form of legal protection in the workplace.
Your loyalties are misplaced and your attacks on democrats are disgusting and vile… just liek the type of person you are.
Republicans are dangerous to this country and dangerous to the American people. They are seeking to further gut financial regulation which leaves this nation vulnerable to more economic shocks and recession like in 2008.
Chance Petersen
Interesting but not surprising… this world is filled up with so much deceptions, this such thing is happening for much more called for further deceptions. Nothing more. Having said that, there are bunch others who have already have done the gay sex at least once in their lives. That’s why God said in the Bible “He gave them up for their vile behaviors” However these are indicated for people who dwell in them, and never repented. The number is no more surprising than the republicans lol so get over yourselves. This is nothing new.
youarekiddingme
@BJ McFrisky:
…”GHW Bush & Dick Cheney are in fact supporters.”
Are you kidding? Bush senior went to a wedding AFTER SCOTUS decision and that makes him a supporter? What the fuck did he do for us while he was in office? Oh, and what has he done for us since leaving office? Going to a wedding doesn’t mean shit!!
Let’s visit ole’ Dick Cheney for a moment shall we… My husband and I went on a dive vacation to Grand Cayman while Good Ole’ Dick was in office. His lesbian daughter (and her girlfriend) were staying in the room next door (at the Cobalt Coast Resort) and were being guarded by the Secret Service. They were on a dive vacation and joined us on several dives as well. What was Good Ole’ Dick’s stance on gay/lesbian rights then? He was ANTI-GAY/LESBIAN RIGHTS just like the rest of his Republican cronies (Bush included).
Don’t start spouting off the crap about Republicans supporting LGBT rights and then give names like Bush/Cheney who are two of the biggest assholes/hypocrites of recent history who served in the Whitehouse…Get your fact straight!
Brian Grady
No it wouldn’t, it’ll surprise me if they admitted to it
onthemark
@BJ McFrisky: Many of those on your list are no longer even in office. But okay, I’ll give you one – let us know if Joe Manchin gets caught in a gay affair! He’s kind of hot for an old dude.
In the unlikely event that Joe Manchin is leading a secret gay life at West Virginia truck stops, you may have a BIT of a point. But only if and when that happens.
“The mistake you’re making is that you’re labeling all Republicans homophobes, when only the ones from the religious right are—the rest are mostly indifferent to us.” That’s what voters tell themselves in New England states every time we elect a supposedly “pro-gay” Republican governor who turns out later to be a fucking asshole. Well, you live in northern California where Republicans are merely a theoretical concept (lucky for you!), so you don’t need to deal with the reality and you can believe what you want to believe about them.
Name one Democrat who was caught in a gay affair. I can think of exactly one: Gov. Jim McGreevey of New Jersey. That’s it, and before that he wasn’t known for being anti-gay, far from it.
You’re left with the several dozen (hundred?) Republican elected officials who got caught in their secret gayness, but spouted anti-gay policies before that. It’s still a matter of degree and sheer quantity, BJ! You can’t ever play that “hypocrisy” card and win. Why do you even keep trying?
GayEGO
I am not surprised, they are such sneaks! :>)
Giancarlo85
@onthemark: Again, BJ thinks it is bad and immoral if a democrat has an affair, but if a republican does it they are a republican and should be defended. They supposedly are “good” for the economy according to McFrisky.

Not much of a surprise being that Republicans are incredibly hypocritical.
