Details are sparse, but gay adult film performer Chris Burke has reportedly died in his Castro apartment in San Francisco.
Burke was fairly fresh on the scene, though he’d already appeared in scenes with Kink.com, Bound Jocks and Guy Bone Media, among other studios. His latest title, “Bound Gods,” was released earlier this week.
Friends say his death came “suddenly” on May 29th, and tributes from colleagues have begun to appear on social media.
“He was a sweet man and a kinky man who was very comfortable in his own skin. He loved sharing his lifestyle and fetishes with the world with no apology or shame,” Kristopher Weston, founder of Bound Jocks, said.
How about we take this to the next level?

I don’t want to be bitchy to the deceased, but were his photos photo-shopped or does his head seem weirdly large for his body????
Either way, sad that somebody passed away, hope his friends and family are doing ok.

You know, life isn’t easy for a lot of people. I’m a heavyset guy and I’m ridiculed by people every single day. But, I push thru. I can find a thousand reasons to off myself everyday, but again, I push thru honey. Having said that, I’ll never understand the pain that many of these men in this industry go through. I hope the adult industry gets a clue and can start to find a way to help these guys on the edge.
It’s sad. I hope I never have to fight the kind of demons many of these performers struggle with everyday. R.I.P

I know I didn’t know him, other than seeing trailers for some of his scenes, and have no reasonable right to any details. But I always struggle when I hear of someone young dying of wanting to know how. Accident? Illness, disease, medical condition? Suicide? Drugs? Crime victim? Maybe part of it is trying to get, if not closure, a sense of completeness if they were someone who I was close to. And if they were younger than me, maybe it’s trying to get reassurance that it won’t happen to me because…….?
Uncertainty and the unknown are hard for humans. I actually wrote in my final instructions (which hopefully won’t be needed for decades to come) that I hope my obituary will be as detailed as my executors feel is necessary to help survivors process their grief.
But no, I know I have no right to ask for any details. No matter what happened, it’s rough for those who loved him. My thoughts are with them.
Stache
On his twitter account he calls himself a “Partyer”. Maybe in the kink world it means something different but in mine Party usually meant doing Meth. Especially in SF. OD sounds about right.

Porn seems to be a very dangerous profession to be in these days.

Gotta love the Gay Lifestyle, huh? #SoBrave #Pride #Progressive

@heavylifter: Oh piss off troll…Porn attracts damaged people – straight or gay – and the industry needs to be subject to the same health and safety laws as any other worker in this country.

But only in gay subculture is porn a central support pillar.
The gay subsculture is rife with drug abuse and STDs, you need to face reality instead of burying your head in the #DIVERSITY #ACCEPTANCE propaganda.

@heavylifter: There’s a gay lifestyle? Here I’ve been just mowing the lawn, taking the car to the car wash, doing laundry, washing the dishes, going to work in a grocery store, replacing the dead car batter in my mom’s car, taking the dog to the Vet for yearly checkups…..yeah, gotta love that gay lifestyle.

In between your daily diet of Gawker “warm your lil heart” click bait and celeb gossip, and updating your Grindr profile.
If there is no gay lifestyle please explain the std and drug epidemic in the gay subculture. Let me guess, you deny there is a gay subculture because you replaced mommies vibrator batteries for her after you ran them flat.

Thanks for the same talking points we used to hear from that pinhead Brian.
There is no gay lifestyle or gay culture/subculture. e are all as varied as the rainbow flag.

I saw this movie based on an autobio written by a Gay Publishing Executive and learned that “Do You Party” is a reference to drugs. This author actually hooked-up with limo drivers by asking them if they partied and the sharing of drugs led to sex. What pissed me off was that a hot young Puerto Rican Limo Driver asked me if I partied and dumb ole me thought he meant going out to dance clubs. One guy told me that “Do You Party” was a way of asking someone if they got high, not necessarily a reference to meth. Wish I could remember the movie (I saw it on Hulu). Also,
I think it’s said that the only time it seems to be “acceptable” to mention Adult Performers these days seems to be: a) when they die; b) when they kill someone; or, c) when they appear in something mainstream with their gay porn pasts.

Sweethearts, I am so in tears over this it is so sad when a persons dies especially at the peak of their life.
Brian
The porn business is a form of prostitution. Keep well away from it.
I feel sorry for anybody who chooses to get involved with it.
SonOfKings
@KevinG: It’s a perfectly natural and human to want to know why some relatively young and healthy person unexpectedly dropped dead. That’s how we get information to, perhaps, adjust our own behaviors to avoid danger. It may not be my business to know, or it may be. That’s the problem, we don’t know.
Ogre Magi
@DDstar1me: What pain do you think they go through?
Stache
@Brian: Too bad we can’t trade his death for yours. Talk about celebration.
Me2
@DDstar1me: Sadly, I think that the porn industry’s business model is sustained by the pain, naivety, and desperation that many of the actors go through.

Brian
I stand by my post – porn is prostitution. Don’t mistake it for sex. Sex is free, porn is paid.
Kink.com sucks. It has a bisexual double standard in many of its productions. It has a strong misogynistic streak. Women are slapped, pushed and spat upon. Is this something that gay men should be associating themselves with? I think not.
SumSay
@Brian:
Men are as well. The site caters to different tastes. As long as no one’s getting seriously injured or being forced to do things out of contract then everything’s good. What people want to view is their business. That’s not a LGBT issue.
Prinny
Been a while since the last one died.
Brian
@SumSay: Are you making excuses for misogynistic portrayals of women? I hope not.
Don’t deny that kink.com trades on the idea of the bisexual female prostitute who is there for the entertainment of men. Don’t deny it.
Some might even say that kink.com is homophobic.
SumSay
@Brian:
And you clearly don’t know what kink.com is about.
youarekiddingme
@heavylifter: What lifestyle do you ascribe to? Do you consider 12 oz beer curls as a “heavylifter?” Come on now, I bet you don’t worry about having a “6 pack” now do you heavylifter? You just have a keg!
I’m gay, have always been. I’ve been in the Army (served in combat), I’ve been in a committed relationship for over 24 years (only legally allowed to marry less than a year), have a house, 2 dogs, help to support parents, I’m retired from two jobs….Exactly WHAT are you saying is this “gay lifestyle” I’m supposed to be living/have lived? I was/am too busy living to worry about a “gay” lifestyle that’s supposedly plagued with STD’s, drugs, alcohol, porn, etc that you espouse as part of your assertion. Where are your facts to back up these bullshit assertions anyway? As I suspected…people like you, love to say things like, “everyone knows that…” By the way, not everyone knows any of your bullshit statements. Your statements are called Logical Fallacies. You are called (quite correctly) a troll!
joeyty
IF this guy in particular is really deceased or not, who knows ? But I agree that porn does seem to attract a larger percentage of guys-on-the-edge than other careers do.

@scotshot: “Thanks for the same talking points we used to hear from that pinhead Brian.”
They use the same talking points because they are the same person.

In my opinion, Heavylifter and Brian are trolls.

Such a shame. Such a lovely looking guy.

I met Shawn (Chris Burke) a couple of years ago during IML in Chicago before he started working in porn. He was very put together, actually. He was a super sweet guy, and very sexy in person. We hung out that weekend, and we stayed in touch for a while after. I still have his phone number. I actually complimented him about his scenes for Kink when he started. As far as I knew, that was just a fun thing for him to do because he had a “real” job, and he also liked to travel (he didn’t live in SF). He did not do drugs, but I don’t know if that changed. This is, indeed, very shocking to me.
DCguy
Part of the problem is that pron should probably be regulated the EXACT same way that other entertainment industries are.
In other words, in “legit” entertainment, the actor is paid for the work they do, and if their image or scene is used in a different setting, they have to pay the actor or get permission. In porn the actor is paid for one scene, and then that scene can show up in multiple other movies, streaming, shots of it can appear in magazines, and the actor never gets any return.
If the industry had to pay per use like other entertainment venues, you would have many of these actors actually making some money off their work for years. Seems like that may avoid some trouble later.
dwes09
@heavylifter: Really, nobody here needs your right wing bull. Yes, there are people caught up in the bar and club scene, and people who do drugs, but the porn subculture is fueled by right wing trolls and log cabiners like you. Those who eschew contact wioth other gay people but are overflowing with judgement fueled by self-hatred.
We have no idea yet how this man died, few if any of us know anything about his private life. Only fools have such trouble telling the difference between their beliefs and fantasies and real life. If you want to buy into the christian right image of the “gay lifestyle” and deride those who have real lives, go ahead. But it reflects poorly on your intelligence and self esteem (if you have any).
Stache
@DCguy: You’re absolutely right. The Studios take advantage of the very naive. Guys that have zero knowledge of what they’re getting themselves into. It’s their bread and butter after all.
The studios then say you can use your porn work to score future escorting business. Big Woop.
dwes09
@heavylifter: “The gay subsculture is rife with drug abuse and STDs, you need to face reality instead of burying your head in the #DIVERSITY #ACCEPTANCE propaganda.”
The last thing we need here is a breeder/fundie/republican wannabe telling us about ourselves. Get lost, unless you enjoy being laughed at for your lack of understanding. Gay folks are well aware of the toll societal disapprobation has taken on us, and the level of dysfunction that exists within some of our numbers. We don’t need troll outsiders projecting their ignorance on us.
Brian
The stench of porn has soaked the brains of many gay-identifying men. Gay culture is built on a sex act and the wide acceptance of prostitution in its various guises, including the porn guise.
They should ban the gay scene and force gay-identifying men to mix with the rest of society. It will force these lost souls to re-assess their lives, which is a good thing.
Time to pull the curtains down on the sordid.
robho3
It very disturbing to see so any negative comments on here judging him because he did porn and maybe drugs. He was a human being why don’t you people have some respect for the dead.
dwes09
@Brian: “They should ban the gay scene and force gay-identifying men to mix with the rest of society. It will force these lost souls to re-assess their lives, which is a good thing.

There you have it, all the proof you need that this “brian” troll is a breeder and likely fundamentalist who somehow thinks his backwards views can save us from ourselves.
Brian dear, we have no need of your outmoded and fantasy based views here. Had you any grasp on reality you would see little difference between the gay and straight porn industry and would understand that the image of gay life pushed by the right wing (clearly your only contact with gay life) is not at all accurate.
jorgecruz
Let’s not waste time trying to argue with someone that thinks we need to justify why we deserve respect. We don’t need to prove why we are just as good as straight people because actually we are better and deserve admiration. A higher percentage of gay people earn advanced college degrees, we earn more money and have more disposable income, have lower divorce rates, almost no abortions, we have a smaller percentage of people that are obese as compared to “straight guys” and are the drivers of most trends and pretty much all of the culture in the world. You would have almost no music, television, literature, plays or movies if it weren’t for gay people. Many of the greatest Artists, Musicians, Divers, Skaters, Swimmers, Tennis Players, Comedians, and World Leaders have been gay. So it isn’t surprising that heavylifter is here looking for our attention- he should be.
seaguy
Nothing like talking shit about the dead cause they cannot defend themselves. Sad that so many seem to get joy from doing that.
May he RIP no matter what lifestyle he lived.

@DCguy: Porn industries work a lot like modeling agencies. Porn stars are more like models than entertainers, but the “legit” entertainment industry can be just as shady and cutthroat as modeling and porn. Porn actually does have a “legit” business side when it comes to directors, studios and very popular models. The fact of the matter is that a lot of the models are too dumb, aimless and reckless to really succeed at anything. Look at Jenna Jameson, the only difference between her and another blonde with big tits getting paid peanuts is drive. Your logic will simply result in more money for these guys to go blow on meth and other self-destructive behaviors. Having more money won’t fix broken people.
