L.A. PRIDE is promoting this year’s festivities with a series of billboards introducing “The New American Family,” which feature models representing the LGBT community including a gay dad, a transgender mom, a grandmother in drag, and two children.
But these billboards aren’t in Los Angeles — they’re currently running in and around the Tokpeka, KS area, where the Westboro Baptist Church is headquartered. The ads are a fun jab at the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, who will be in town to protest, as they do every year.
This year’s L.A. PRIDE lineup includes performances by Grammy-winner Jennifer Hudson, Azealia Banks, Mary Lambert, Betty Who, the Bangles and Demi Lovato.
Christopher Street West has produced L.A. PRIDE for the last 44 years, and this year, they’ll be returning to the days of Roller Disco with Thunder Ground, a high-energy outdoor roller skating rink that encourages you to “dress inappropriately.” For two whole days, Thunder Ground will host live entertainment and some of L.A.’s top DJs.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Thunder Ground is produced by Luke Nero and Andrew Rigal, and is part of the ticketed VIP Experience, which also includes festival perks, fast-pass VIP entry to a private up-close main stage viewing deck, and specialty bars. For show schedules, and VIP experience ticket information, visit LAPRIDE.org.

I don’t get it. It looks like an inter-racial hetero family + a man in a wig.
