Lance Bass Said Gay Dancing With The Stars Partners Would Be ‘Silly.’ Is Portia DeGeneres Gonna Prove Him Wrong?

Israel beat America’s Dancing With The Stars to featuring a same-sex couple, but next season could be our year! And you might find yourself rooting for a one Portia DeGeneres.

The actress, currently on a media tour about eating disorders (oh, and her book Unbearable Lightness), hinted on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show that she’s been approached by DWTS producers about appearing on the reality competition. With a lady!

The show is “planning to feature a same-sex couple. You’re at the top of the list,” said Ryan, to which Portia responded, “Goodness, you really do break news. … I’m not gonna pass, let me think about it. I used to be a ballet dancer, it’s not completely a pass. You never know.”

Apparently it took two years for the U.S. DWTS to come around on same-sex pairings: Back in 2008, judge Cheryl Burke said, “I don’t think America is ready to watch two men dancing.” Which might still be true: Producers could be looking only for two women — easier for straight male audiences, or whatever — to ease into things.

Just be careful, Portia: Lance Bass — who said the idea of a same-sex pairing on the show “would be so silly” and “would just be like making fun of something” — says appearing on the show in 2008 destroyed his relationship. Do not make The Ellen angry.

This story is the opposite of interesting. Who the fuck cares? The only people that watch shows like this are lifeless, soul-less, idiots.

      @Miles – Agreed. WTF?

After witnessing how dumb, and emotionally immature Reichen is after viewing him on the A-List… I have to give Lance another 30 point IQ deduction for having dated him.

First, Lance Bass is a total dumbass, imo. What self respecting gay man says seeing to people of the same sex is silly? Like wtf?

Second, I watched the the two women’s dance this week and thought it was quite romantic. And Queerty had that clip of those two men dancing together on some program (I can’t recall which) a while ago and it was fantastic. There’s no reason two women or two men can’t look good dancing together.

This week’s dance by those two ladies on Isreal’s DWTS for anyone interested is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qcg2doASMU)

@CHI79: You’re right, you have to be an idiot to enjoy watching people learn and grow as dancers. How pathetic. I think you’re an idiot for judging people based on what television shows they watch.

Hey, if two men can kiss on Glee, why can’t two men dance as a couple in DWTS?

Stop saying “a one,” Queerty. You’ve been saying that for weeks now, and it is not English. People learn that in primary school, you f’ing idiots.

And yes, I realise the futility of complaining about Queerty’s use of English.

@TRUTH – Fuck you too dude! The vast majority of people who watch this kind of voyeuristic television are too fat/lazy/stupid/imagination-less/adventure-less to go out and learn how to dance on their own so they just live vicariously through someone who actually is. Have you watched these shows? The “talent” is a vapid as they come. Its just an opportunity for people w/ very low IQs to have something to do when they get home from their jobs and something to talk about when they go back to their job the next day.

If they choose two women instead of two men, it would be yet another surrender to the homophobic double standard. Women dance together all the time – it’s nothing new. You only have to go to any mainstream nightclub.

Dancing With The Stars appears to be chickening out of showing the real deal – ie two men dancing together. Don’t fall for it. Keep up the pressure on DWTS producers.

As for Portia, I’m sort of getting sick of her. Portia, darling, you and Ellen do not represent me as a gay man nor do you represent gay men in general. You’ve had a charmed ride. Liberals in the entertainment industry are always far more accepting of female-female couples than male-male ones. Go away, girl.

My, my, how interesting. On the one hand, you have Lance Bass and his liberal straight friends making earnest comments about the horrors of anti-gay bullying. Yet, on the other, here they are allegedly suggesting that two men dancing together would be “silly”. My, my, can anyone else smell the inconsisency?

Lance Bass appears to be the straight liberals’ best friend. Sort of like an accessory hand-bag that you drag about to prove to your other straight friends how “open-minded” you are. Yet when it comes to actually showing a genuine male-male coupling, they all whisper behind their hands about how “icky” it is.

Lance and his liberal straight friends in Hollywood can all fuck off for all I care.

A few notes for Master Bass:

If a hectic schedule destroys your relationship, it wasn’t a real relationship. Relationships require work and compromise.

Take the residuals you are still getting from that dumb ass over produced boy band you were in and go buy a cave somewhere.

Lance Bass, stayed in the closet WAAAAY after his career was over. He was outed because Perez Hilton outed him by continuing to show pictures of he and his boyfriend together, so then Lance started having female friends stand in between he and his boyfriend when they went out so the blogs started showing pictures of them wearing each others clothes. So FINALLY Lance is out….

Why am I not surprised that somebody who stayed in the closet long after they had any career related reason to do so would think that a gay couple on DWTS is “Silly”?

@Jason, at what point were Ellen and her wife supposed to be a representation for you? Hell, I don’t think anyone could, should or would want to represent you. you do not determine who gets to represent whom in this community but yourself. You do not speak for all of us so please remember that. Do crawl back into your hole and fester there please.

That aside and claws pulled back I think they need to push it forward and put two men together. Be bold and daring for a chance dammit. Or if you’re going to put two women together find a butch or two and let people swallow that not the straight man’s so called fantasy.
