Read an interesting quote on a conservablog today, “why do the liberals celebrate their homosexuals, like Barney Frank, but when a Republican like Ted Haggard or Craig get’s caught with his hand in the cookie jar, they are villified?”

Umm quite possibly because, to my knowledge, Barney doesn’t go around blindly sticking his hand into bathroom stalls or smoking meth with prostitutes. Both things you would rather not see from your congressional representatives, regardless of whether they prefer innies our outies.

I also don’t see Barney Frank leading large mindless right-wing christians down a path of intolerance and bigotry.

“I was able to see Craig’s blue eyes as he looked into my stall…” longing like a wife searching for the return of her husband who is out to sea…

Kudos to Dawster, I had the same thought as I read this. Sgt. Karsnia has a bright future in the Harlequin genre if the whole law enforcement thing doesn’t pan out. “His provocative, pale palm, freshly greased by a handsome young lobbyist, reached out, groping for my purple headed love spear…”

okay, i don’t actually see anything “lewd” in the report. i see the ATTEMPT to be lewd…

positioning the bag, tapping the foot, and rubbing the hands under the stall is hardly “lewd”… he should be arrested for being annoying, but not for any actual sexual conduct.

geez, usually when they bust people, there’s a dick hanging out, and stroking going on… you know LEWD CONDUCT.

this makes it sound like it was an attempt to get toilet paper gone wrong.

It is vaguely reminiscent of a Seinfeld ep. Maybe the good Senator just couldn’t “spare a square”.

The liberal press has totally distorted this issue. Everyone knows that Larry’s gesture simply meant “tap your foot too if I have your vote.”

Whether or not it did or did not seem like lewd conduct, and I agree it didn’t seem like that however I do not have any first hand experience in looking for sex in toilet stalls, he did plead guilty which in my mind means he was looking for some sex.

I’m surprised he didn’t say something like god has a plan for him so that’s why this happened. You know, the old let the bible save my ass bullshit.

“Whether or not it did or did not seem like lewd conduct”

Seriously? I’m not much of a toilet cruiser either, but even I know that things like tapping your foot repeatedly and moving it closer to the next guy’s or–for heaven’t sake–wiggling your fingers under stalls generally means one thing. And as for peeking through stall doors…haven’t we had this conversation? A restroom stall is socially regarded as a private place, and there are a good number of guys queer and straight who wouldn’t think twice about punching someone out for such an indiscreet move.

And then he had the nerve to try to refuse to accompany the officer–were we a bit under the influence? Although, when I first read the report, it seemed like the officer was giving Craig an out by showing him his badge under the stall. Perhaps I just don’t understand police procedure, but the way I read it, it seemed as if Craig could have just left the restroom (cop hadn’t even gotten a clear look at him, had he?) and gone on with his life.

Either way, he entered a guilty plea. Why a legislator would think he could wave it all off as having dropped a piece of paper later after pleading guilty, I have no idea.
