Leah Daughtry's Lawyers Accused Of Strong Arming

daughtryl2.jpg
Some DNC-associated lawyers have been up to no good. Homo-journo Kevin Naff alleges that DNC Chief of Staff Leah Daughtry sent her lawyers to intimidate him.

Naff, whose op-ed appears tomorrow's Washington Blade, the representatives tried to put the squeeze on him and his publisher:

Naff writes that he "got a taste of the Democratic wrath last month, after criticizing DNC Chair Howard Dean and his chief of staff, Leah Daughtry, in an editorial."

According to Naff, Daughtry responded to the editorial by sending two lawyers to confront him and Blade publisher Lynne Brown, lodging what Naff calls "red-faced cursing and threatening of lawsuits."

One of Daughtry's lawyers, Charlie Kimmet, denies the allegations and described their meeting as "not at all contentious".

We're really not surprised by Naff's statements, for we also have received some less than cordial calls from DNC representatives. And when we say "less-than-cordial," we mean these people were livid and sounded certifiable for all their paranoia. The most unsettling thing about our encounters was the sense of entitlement felt on their part, as if we had to bow down to all their demands. Doesn't the DNC know that we gays don't bow down for just anyone?

Meanwhile, on a related note, the DNC gay chair Claire Lucas continues to skirt questioning over the DNC's discrimination discovery. You all recall that former staffer Donald Hitchcock filed a suit after DNC officials fired him soon after Hitchcock's boyfriend wrote a critical open letter about the organization, which he claims treated him unfairly for being gay.

Lucas refused to cooperate with the court and never testified. Hitchcock's lawyers made one more attempt this week after hearing that Lucas would be in DC for a fund raiser at DNC donator Howard Ockman's house. In an effort to get Lucas on the stand, Hitchcock's lawyers sent a letter to Lucas' team urging her to testify. They have not yet heard back. No wonder this girl has such a bad reputation in DC – and it's beginning to taint the DNC.

Pathetic. This woman has balls (or should I say ovaries) to try to intimidate members of the press (and gay ones, at that). You go Knaff — give them HELL!

DenverGirl,
That can't happen. They are stuck with her. You think removing a gay man created havoc, just try to remove a black woman pentacostal speaking in tongues with lawyers. She is there for life, and will end up running the DNC "through the lord". Burning us "faggots" as the devil.

You know what's "pathetic" Gregg? What’s pathetic are ignorant, bigoted and hurtful comments posted about a woman that I doubt any of you know. I am amazed by the hypocrisy and cattiness of the individuals posting these comments. I can personally attest to the fact that Leah has treated everyone at the DNC with fairness, dignity and respect. I thought we, the LGBT community, wanted to be treated with fairness and dignity, but yet it's ok for us to attack others based on appearances and their religious beliefs? These comments are simply saddening. I hope that others who read these disrespectful and ignorant comments won’t view them as a reflection on the LGBT community as a whole.

Maseey – I agree with you and some of your comments to Gregg. Bigoted comments and and assumptions based on one's looks should not be considered in these sorts of actions. I do not condone what this lady did, the course she took with the lawyers bullying a LGBT news agency, or her lack of support of the LGBT community in general, but as for looks, religion and bigotry = not cool.

Massey you have such good points. Atually studies done from 1991-2005 have shown a steady DECREASE (35% decrease from the period of time of 1986-1991 which has the highest numbers of teen pregnancies) in teen pregnancies for girls ages 15-19 and the largest decline by race was for black teenagers (48% decrease from 1991-2006). These declines Black and are more likely to become teen moms than other races.

I agree that no matter what, race should not be part of this debate. As far as people citing that black girls keep having babies to get welfare I disagree,in some states a girl can only receive $285 a month for the first child and $65 a month for every other child. You can only get money benefits for a total of 63 months in your lifetime. Also the majority of black women on welfare in are married or divorced adults and not teens because if they live with their parents the state counts their parents income.

You must agree that people are not educating their children soon enough about sex and STDs — in all races, not just in the black community. One must wonder if that will even stop teens from having unprotected sex. The majority of time it apparent that girls of all races think that pregnancy cannot happen to them. Even my friend Shandede (I changed her name for purpose of privacy) who had no clue that she was pregnant and had an abortion in her panty-hose at our local dance club, was unaware do the incredible opportunities to learn more about birth control out there. All parents, not just those of black children who still have parents at home, need to start EARLY in teaching their kids about respecting themselves and their bodies, and about their futures and how to best achieve their goals. They need to warn their kids about the obstacles they can avoid like teen pregnancy & drugs, like in the show the WIRE when the black are selling drugs, way before they're sexually active, this needs to take place in grade school todays kids are exposed to so much sexual content they're way more sophisticated about it then when we were young. But if any girl, black or not, gets raped by her father, she should be able to have an abortion and not try to put a hanger in her uterus and cause a self inflicted abortion.

Again, thanks Massey! You are SO right.

Also regarding your comments re: Claire Lucas. She has always been a strong supporter and advocate for the LGBT community in DC and around the country. She has dedicated much time, energy and personal resources for the betterment of LGBT movement and electing Democrats. Apparently, as court documents state, she is willing to testify as long as the questions center on the case. That sounds pretty fair to me. Instead of demonizing her, we should be applauding all she has done to make this country a better place for LGBT Americans.

Religon should always be under scrutiny, especially if we are to maintain a democracy and not lead to a theocracy. A theocratic government has a leader spouting that "their" God and bible is the law of the land, not the people. John Ashcroft another example of "Pentacostal".

The voice of reason does prevail within a majority of these postings. However, the ugly, divisive, racist remarks deserved to be ignored as they stem from poor parenting and an inferior gene pool.

The leadership of the DNC and that of Ms. Daughtery are above reproach.

A friendly, heartfelt suggestion to all the "haters" on this posting – get some therapy and work through your "Mommy and Daddy" issues and stop using Howard and Leah as your surrogates.

Daughtry, a pentecostal cult leader mired in superstition and ignorance CANNOT avoid being a bigot. The fact that Daughtry’s freely chosen her unwholesome and perverse lifestyle and that she’s ALLOWED to play a leading role in the Democratic Party is further confirmation that in spite of their claims to the contrary, the Democratic Party is a cesspool of bigotry no better and no worse than the Republicans.

The actions of the Democratic (sic) ‘leadership’ establishes that beyond doubt. Obama panders to bigots. Billary Clinton plays the 'race' card and the muslim card. Barney guts ENDA. They combine to trash can our hate crimes bill and then hypocritically condemn the murders of our youth. They refuse to end DADT and DOMA. Diane Feinstein makes sure that gay bashers get appointed to the federal judiciary and as Attorney General.

People in the GLBT community who support that party have a lot to answer for.

H'mo insipidus – Try to stay on topic. The topic is the diehard bigotry of the leaders of the Democratic Party, and the predisposition of ignorant and superstitious people to be bigots.

What’s bitter is not our comments but what your beloved but self-righteous Democrats are doing to us. "Obama panders to bigots. Billary Clinton plays the ‘race’ card and the muslim card. Barney guts ENDA. They combine to trash can our hate crimes bill and then hypocritically condemn the murders of our youth. They refuse to end DADT and DOMA. Diane Feinstein makes sure that gay bashers get appointed to the federal judiciary and as Attorney General." They’re indistinguishable from Republicans.

The attempt to substitute piss ant name-calling for political discussion is something we’d expect from Pat Robertson, Leah Daughtry, Billy James Hargis and well… you.

Bill…before you continue to make these baseless accusations, can you please give some examples of how Rev. Daughtry's religious beliefs have affected the DNC and the Party? Because I can gaurantee you that the list of ways she has been supportive of the LGBT community, and how she has helped highlight the important role of the LGBT community in the political process, will be far more exhaustive than your list.

Massey77 – it's not just the individual, it the party that’s bigoted. Although I want to ask again how a pentecostal minister, some one who chose the same path of ignorance and superstition as Pat Robertson and Jimmy Swaggart, and who thinks we should burn for our sins can be expected to be gay friendly.

And specifically to your question, from the introductory post by Queerty "You all recall that former staffer Donald Hitchcock filed a suit after DNC officials fired him soon after Hitchcock’s boyfriend wrote a critical open letter about the organization, which he claims treated him unfairly for being gay." Did Leah Daughtry approve that firing? Is it DNC policy to punish honest GLBT activists who dare to criticize Democratic Party bigotry? Did Barney Frank do the same during the ENDA debate by whipping up a furor of bigotry against transgendered folk and others who opposed his gutting of ENDA? Is Hillary playing the race car and the muslim card? Does Obama pander to bigots? Does all that spell BIGOTRY? It’s up to you to prove that critics of your party are wrong. Prove that Frank didn’t gut ENDA and Feinstein didn’t FIGHT to put bigots in the federal judiciary to pander to bigots. Prove that Clinton doesn’t use the race card and the mulsim card to smear Obama. Prove they didn’t trash our agenda so the Republicans wouldn't have wedge issues. And prove it based on laws passed and vetoes overridden, not on utterly worthless campaign promises. Prove it. Let's see your list.

With Democrats like you, Frank, Pelosi, Feinstein, Daughtry, Obama and Billery who needs Republicans?

Ah, but you're wrong.

The Bible that Ms. Daughtry likes to thump says "By their fruits shall ye know them."

The rotten, stinking fruit of homophobia and intimidation of the press through aggressive threats of litigation are well-known, and well-documented.

We need know little else.

That's just unreasonable!

Democrats should be able to slide by on a couple of mealy-mouthed cliches! That shows true political courage worthy of millions of gay votes and hundreds of millions of dollars in LGBT political donations over the last several years!

Return on investment is such a right-wing notion anyway. Democrats deserve our support out of charity, and we should be grateful they deign to accept our icky queer dollars and ballots.
