I knew this was all about to happen and [Herndon] actually texted me right before it happened. I’m so proud of him. Ty waited for a very long time in his life and Billy actually has a chance at having a full life as an out, gay man. People should be able to love who they love — it’s as simple as that.”
— LeAnn Rimes, a longtime ally for the LGBT communities, speaking with HuffPo about country singers such as Ty Herndon and Billy Gilman who came out as gay last month

Excellent. I hope Herndon’s choice to come out forces some of the more phobic types in Nashville to rethink their prejudices. One brick at a time… one brick at a time.

And if the person you love is married and so are you, just have a very public affair and spend the next several years insecurely sniping at the guy’s ex.
Sorry, Leann. This won’t make you relevant.

Herndon’s coming out isn’t going to change anything in the broad sense. Gay male country artists will still not become commercially successful. That’s because females won’t buy the songs of a man who is not directing his desires towards the female body.
The problem lies with the women of the world. They are opposed to male homosexuality unless it is isolated away and does not pose a threat to their power domain in the mainstream. Women enjoy their power in the mainstream, and they’re not about to cede it to the concept of male homosexuality.

@jason smeds: You’ve said some incredibly ignorant things in the past (and by past, I mean daily), but this one is definitely in the Top 3.

of course she’s thrilled. it takes the spotlight off her skank self and her tawdry marriage.

@jason smeds: What power? What is this magical “mainstream” power that women supposedly have? So a woman can’t get into the White House and women in power are mocked for shallow reasons by the mass media, but they have all the power over sexual identity?

@jason smeds: Hey Jim Bryant, no matter what name it goes by, a leopard can’t change it’s spots can it?

@demented – You are totally not getting it. When Ty Herndon and Billy Gilman came out, Leann was one of the first country stars to publicly support them. Even in 2014, not only being gay but supporting gay causes can do damage to a country musician’s career. She has lent her time to gay-related charities over the years and at least she is doing something positive. Do you see Nicki Minaj or Brit-Brit donating time to gay causes? Her romantic relationship issues have nothing to do with her being a gay ally.

And we care about what she says why?
