Lee Daniels Digs Into Drag Ball Culture In New Drama For Showtime

There’s no moss growing on Precious director Lee Daniels: We recently reported he signed a deal to revamp Valley of the Dolls for NBC, and now comes news that he’s doing a new drama for Showtime that delves into New York’s legendary drag ball scene. Daniels, whose next feature film is 2012′s The Paper Boy with Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey, is teaming up with Temple Grandin writer W. Merritt Johnson on the currently-untitled project.

For those children unfamiliar with ball culture, watch this clip from Jennie Livingston’s 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning. In fact, order the film from NetFlix right now. Mo-del!
