Soccer Star Leo Messi Goes For The Goal As New Face Of Dolce & Gabbana

Leo-messi3

Dolce & Gabbana recently announced that Barcelona soccer star Lionel “Leo” Messi will be the new face of the brand. At just 25 years old, Leo’s already being called the greatest player the game has ever seen.  He’s looking pretty good to us and his youthful (but strong) look is obviously serving the Italian brand well.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana had the following to say about Leo:

“We are very happy to link our name to that of a great champion such as Leo Messi. Talent is innate, but it’s the passion and the sheer will we see while he plays that have elevated him to the highest level of worldwide football.”

Check out a sample of his first photo shoot with D&G, and then head on over to The Underwear Expert.

hmmm, I can truly say that I don’t find him particularly attractive.
I mean, he’s not “ugly” (ie: I wouldn’t toss him out of bed), but he wouldn’t have been MY first pick for a model/spokesperson.
So I’m guessing they REALLY liked his fame and his abs?

his “ordinariness” would have been appealing if they weren’t at the same time banking on his ridiculously cut midriff, but then it probably wouldn’t be D&G if they didn’t use sex to sell their product.

And besides, I doubt “ordinary” guys like me are really D&G’s target market.

I am a fan of un-pretty guys. I think they are going for the every day guy thing… with a sports hero theme. His face sort of looks like he has done a little boxing (broken nose?), but soccer can be rough. Either way guys who watch soccer might be into the product because of him. By the way you guys notice the package, looks very real and un-stuffed.

He’s a handsome MAN. And that’s interesting for Dolce & Gabbana to be getting away from the incredibly young, hairless, androgyny of the plastics they used before. Leo works well for that purpose. Light treats him nicely, he photographs well.

      it’s D&G growing up.

Meh. Out of a scale of 1 to 10, he is between a 6 to 7. He wasn’t hired by D&G because of his looks. He was picked more because he is a megastar around the world because of his soccer playing abilities. He is a HUGE star and national hero in Italy.

That’s odd. Despite his success, for anyone who watches football, Messi is the last person you’d associate with a model worthy look. He’s nothing special looks wise. But I guess if they’re going for the “average” guy look.

People with Down Syndrome do not like the term ‘mongoloid’ to describe their condition and they definitely don’t like it to be used as a put down either. I am surprised that a gay publication and that a gay person would be so insensitive and ignorant to use this term. It would be like me saying of the person who wrote the comment that he is ‘so gay’ meaning not nice, ugly, warped etc. You get the picture.

Doesn’t Mongoloid simply mean someone who looks like a they come from Mongolia? Which I don’t think Leo Messi does, by the way.

      1) Messi is Argentine, not Italian.

      2) Yes, “mongoloid” is a derogatory term for people with Down Syndrome. (And resented by both this group and actual Mongolians.)

      3) I think he’s quite good-looking, and this is not the first time D&G has hired a non-model to pose for them. Italian athletes in swimming, soccer and rugby have appeared in their ads.

Glad they’ve chosen a sweaty, rough around the edges, macho man for a model. He could crush walnuts with those thighs of his and would be welcome to wrap them around me any day.
