Queerty is better as a member
Sounds like a real winner.
So the headline is he will be watching it from jail; the story is that he will NOT be watching it from jail. Makes sense.
I like this guy already lol & BTW Liberace was creepy and gross poor guy had to screw that only to end up screwed
I feel sorry for this man. I understand that he is responsible for his life and his behavior, but to take an teenager and put him in a world of wealth, and glamor and celebrity and then toss him out–for whatever reason–is wrong. I wish for him another chance and sobriety, love and the opportunity to live a full life out from behind bars.
Scott Thorson, is a train wreck. Liberace was a freak, made so by living in the closet. This story is not a positive story for gay people. It is a lot of what was wrong and is still wrong with gay relationships built on power/control dynamics and drug abuse. Not to say it isn’t a problem for straight people too, it is. Shame we don’t have something more positive to put out there.
I guess he peaked early.
Why does the headline of this article say Thorson will watch the movie in jail, then say he WON’T watch it in jail in the article???
If he had just been decent to Liberace and treated him with respect, and caring – Mr Thorson would have it made up to this day……sad, and pathetic outcome.
@hephaestion: Because Queerty has a serious writing problems for it’s stories. I would guess they can’t afford real writers yet. They do this all the time:-)
And I have a typo problem:-)
I was all set to feel sorry for the guy, but then hearing that somebody who had been homeless took a $100,000 payday and blew it in 2 months on cars and Jewelry just boggles the mind.
In an inexpensive area that could have paid for a house for him.
Nothing good will come from what will probably be a minstrel-y performance (however well-intended) by Douglas. Secondly, why do prisoners get HBO? I don’t have HBO.
I agree with Jim2008 and Cam, I feel sorry for the guy. But really only because he had such opportunity and blew it all. Some need jail, just to take care of them. Really too bad.
I don’t understand why Mat Damon who is 42 was cast to play a character that was 17-24 in real life. If Liberace had a sexual relationship with a 17 year old boy today he would be crucified. Why was it ok back then. This guy was completely exploited by Liberace. Willingly no doubt. But still. If they showed a real 22 year old actor slamming Michael Douglas from behind (simulated) people would get the real picture.
If Liberace cared anything at all for this young man, he would have never spoiled him rotten and treated him as a trophy “boy toy”. Instead he should have made attempts to help Scott develop at least a minimal level of maturity so this would not happen. If you actually love someone that’s younger (chronologically or emotionally) than yourself, if you really love this person, you would want that person to be the best that he/she can be in life. In this you wouldn’t just think selfishly of your own personal interests, you would also think of his. Disney has made the same mistake with Justin Bieber. In both cases, disaster is the result.
@JimboinLA: Not that long ago, the age of consent was 16 hence all the “Sweet 16″ songs of days gone by. But then again, people had more sense and maturity back then.
@JimboinLA: Exploitation is exploitation. Whether it is this situation, or the situation that Disney created with Justin Bieber or especially child beauty pageants, If money is involved on a large scale, for some strange reason society excuses (wink wink) this UN-excuseable.
