“A New York City man who fled to London after the beating death of a gay man in 2001 has been sentenced to 22 years to life in prison. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said John Love McGhee was sentenced Friday in Queens state Supreme Court. He was found guilty last month of second-degree murder. The DA says the 35-year-old victim, Edgar Garzon, of Queens, lay in a coma for nearly three weeks after being beaten about the head on Aug. 15, 2001, outside a gay bar.” [amNY]
