She lies just like he does – – –
D-Sun
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Aaron Khan
She didn’t lie.
DOMA is not going to last FOREVER.
Inlookout
Out of curiosity, why won’t you take her at her word?
Shannon
Michelle Obama seems lovely. Unfortunately, her husband has turned out to be a dismal failure thusfar.
SM
@Shannon:
All the Negative Nancies in the LGBT movement are getting old.
So sorry the Democrats found Obama to run for President. It’s not like we sent you to be gay in Iran or anything.
Born Gay
@SM: “BE” Gay?
SM
@Born Gay:
Here we go with the over sensitivity again. At least I can have repsect for the people in Iran. You all act like clowns.
SM
@Born Gay:
LGBT deserve 100% equality under the law. Not so sure I really respect the way very many of you all act anymore.
You all don’t even get along with each other! It’s disgusting to see as a straight person. Its disgusting to see how you all behave fighting for your freedoms while Iranians are too.
You all act pathetic.
SO SORRY WE GAVE YOU ALL OBAMA! Keep your donation money to the DNC, Keep it all. That way when you all get 100% equality ,it will be because of STRAIGHT PEOPLE and we can take the credit for STICKING WITH IT!
schulteraffe
@SM:
How hysterically paternalistic of you. As if straight people somehow manage to agree on how to do things. How’s that abortion issue going? Birth control?
Take your condescening superiority complex and do something else with it. We are not your pets and we are certainly not going to step and fetch because you said so. When we get 100% equality it will be in spite of heterosexuals, not because of them.
galefan2004
Make no doubt about it. DOMA will be repealed. Rather that happens in the next 4 years or the next 20 is what is really up for discussion.
galefan2004
@SM: I recognize the contributions from my straight allies, but all my straight allies realize they are there to help not criticize. Do gay people fight amongst each other? Absolutely. Is Obama a terrible president? Absolutely. However, my problems with Obama have very little to do with gay rights. My problems with Obama have much more to do with the fact that he has pussy footed around ending the Iraq war, releasing photos of torture victims, putting torturers on trial, and closing Guitanamo. When he keeps just one, doesn’t even have to be more than one, of his campaign promises my respect will go up for him. Right now, the entire nation realizes that Obama the candidate and Obama the president are two completely different men (its like he had a brain transplant sometime in January) and that will not bode well for him in 2012 (much like it didn’t bode well for Bush Sr. who tried the same stunt).
AlanInSLC
With being LGBT being such a touchy subject in the political spectrum, who is to say that things aren’t being worked on quietly to have a good plan in place before any action is taken. I know it sucks for most people who feel they need INSTANT gratification with everything that includes them, but in reality it is probably better that Obama is taking such a laxidasical approach to repealing DOMA and DADT. I feel they are trying to keep quiet what they plan on doing so that the opposition can’t instantly pounce and try to stop any real progress to fixing the discrimination that is so cancerous to our society.
Maybe I’m wrong, but at least I’m not spewing negativity out there to fuel the hatred towards our culture.
osocubano
You can’t always get what you want when you want it.
Get a grip.
Cam
This reminds me when George Bush Sr. was running for reelection and they wanted to try to get independents to vote for him, so what did they do? They sent out his wife Barbara to talk to those groups and say that SHE thought abortion should be legal. Well, thats very nice Barb, but since HE is the president and HE doesn’t it really is irrelevent what you say.
If Obama gets rid of DOMA that is great, but again, don’t pull the old Clinton manuver of saying “Just be patient, we’ll get around to you someday.” and NOT expect people to get impatient.
Cam
@SM: you said…
“LGBT deserve 100% equality under the law. Not so sure I really respect the way very many of you all act anymore.

Well my my my….so WE dissappoint YOU? I’m just curious. What is the divorce rate amoung straights? Oh thats right, over 50%. Seems like you all can’t get along either! AS for you claiming that you are “STICKING WITH IT”. No you aren’t you are STICKING WITH Obama, that is not the same as sticking with Gay rights. The fact is, I wouldn’t expect you to understand why we are upset. After all, you believe in gay rights because it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to say “Hey, I’m a nice person”. But guess what, nobody is telling YOU that you can’t marry your partner. YOU never have to worry about some third cousin you have never met suing and winning ownership of the house if you die and stealing it from your partner because your relationship isn’t legal. You never have to worry about being kept out of a hospital room and not being able to make life or death decisions if your partner is in an accident, while some gay-hating relative he hasn’t spoken to in 10 years is in there deciding to end his “Sinfull” life by unplugging him. So please take your condescension someplace else.
sweetdog
@SM:
You’re straight?! I find that hard to believe. Using a term like “Negative Nancies” is something a tired old queen would say back in the 60’s! Grow up! Take the wool you’re using to pull over our eyes and go knit yourself a rainbow scarf.
galefan2004
@AlanInSLC: Please explain the DOJ DOMA brief then. Seriously, was inclined to agree with you before that brief came out. Unless you feel that that brief came out to upset the gay community in order to get them more visible on the national level. Maybe Obama is playing politics against the HRC instead of the other way around.
galefan2004
@Cam: While I agree completely with what you just said. I think you get on dangerous ground when you make it us versus them.
TheFaultIsAllYours
@galefan2004:
Sorry Gale but the fault is all yours for believing the is a such thing as a good American president or a good democrat for that matter. The entire american federal system is pretty much bunk.
Cam
@galefan2004: You said “@Cam: While I agree completely with what you just said. I think you get on dangerous ground when you make it us versus them.”

Agreed, I don’t think it’s an “Us v. Them”. I was just saying those comments to the one straight person on here who had made that ridiculous statement . My straight friends would never have said or acted the way SM did. So again, while it isn’t us v. them SM has to realize that his or her perception of the issue is not going to be as emotionally involving to them since in all honesty this is just a side note to their life.
Bri
SM is just another holier-than-thou straight person, an embarrassment to our real straight allies. Not worth listening to.
edgyguy1426
@schulteraffe: Sadly, I have to agree with you here. I have castigated, cautiously supported, SM’s actions but her words are so hurtful, I wonder if her brother would approve of the way she berates us every day. I wonder if he posts here at all cuz I’d love to hear his take on things.
BrianZ
@edgyguy1426: There you go, giving her ideas. My partner and I are still betting that the love of her life turned out to be queer and she never got over the betrayal. Whatever the root cause, she’s sure shit-pop crazy on a summer day!
Shannon
@SM:
I don’t really give a flying fuck how you feel about my anti-Obama comments. If you don’t like what I have to say then haul your ass over to a more Obama-friendly site like DailyKos. You’ll find several of your fellow partisan hacks over there.
