In case you were wondering, if you’re gay, you’re a really lousy employee. Or at least that what Mission America’s Linda Harvey believes. The high priestess of homophobia told her radio listeners that employers not only have the right to fire LGBT employees, but that they should fire them. It’s all about what Harvey deems “high moral standards,”
“This does not deprive anyone of a job by the way, except those who insist on displaying these lifestyles to everyone and forcing their acceptance,” Harvey insists. (To put it another way: no one loses his job except the person who was fired.) If you don’t want to get fired, Harvey has a simple solution: don’t be gay. “The fact is that no one needs to be involved in homosexuality and all of the good qualities a person may have that might make that person otherwise an excellent employee don’t require a homosexual lifestyle.”
And — you knew this was coming — the real victim here is Linda and her pals, not the employee who was canned solely out of bigotry. “Now the activists won’t like this and I may get another slew of hateful emails and such from the tolerance crowd but really where is the actual concern for the rights and beliefs of others? The track record on these so-called non-discrimination regulations shows a consistent and disturbing pattern of bullying and abuse.” Of course, the “tolerance crowd” that Harvey is not part of represents about three-quarters of the American public. We’re looking forward to watching Harvey’s bouffant explode as that number keeps growing.
