LISTEN: Is Adam Lambert's First Single Any Good?

While "Time For Miracles" may be Adam Lambert's first original release, "For Your Entertainment" is his first official single. Does it live up to our lowered expectations based on this thing?

Quite good. And they should swap this pic for the album cover.

Much better than his album cover and his first released song. Both of which really did lower my expectations on his album. So maybe I like this because of that?

Can't wait to see what Kris and Alyson have in store. I'm the rare person who is actually a fan of all three Idol alums and rooting for all of them to succeed.

@ Swarm and all: Just heard it. Loved it!!! sick beat, sick lyrics. (Geez, I really am a fantard. LOL) Total butt twitcher. Can't wait to get on the dance floor with it. Still needs something with a killer hook, but that'll come, and this is definitely HOT!!! kinda dangerous, sounds like he might actually do something to ya! LMAO !

Amazing how many commenters on the sites were still expecting a boy scout ! But lots of love out there for this. Too cool. Can't wait to see him snarlin' on a stage with this and whatever else is in the album. Can't make up my mind whether to pre-order from Amazon or wait to buy off the shelf — so I can do it PUBLICLY ! LOL

Ooooh, I love it…Much better than the crap they saddled Kris with. Almost makes me forget that Xanadu-inspired abortion of an album cover.

yeah. i 1st thought… sound like Britney, except he can sing without aided electronics. It's contemporary in that Britney, Lady Gaga mode.

i'm glad he's not screeching too much. I actually like it and I'm not a fan so that's saying something. I hope it does well and he does well tho.

i'd like him more if he wouldn't screech.

this is just a britney track with another voice singing it right?

it sucks!!!!!!!

It's not bad, but it's not great either. It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought he was going to do a glam rock influenced record. It does sound like Britney or Lady Gaga. It's nothing original or new.
It's not going to set him apart from everyone else out there.
He's no Kelly Clarkson, that's for sure! She has her own sound that allowed her to separate herself from the AI thing.

OMG–its so Britney. Im sorry but i'd rather listen to Britney than this. if im going to listen to Adam, i wanna listen to him actually sing.Which we all know he's really good at.
Only Britney can do this 'ish and get away with it.

Phenomenal! This single really is about Adam, his sexuality and how he wants the audience to concentrate on the entertainment. "Close your eyes NOT your mind," "I'm here for your entertainment," "Can you handle what I'm about to do," "I bet you thought I was soft and sweet" – For Your Entertainment

@Tommy: Kelly created "her" sound on her second album. Kelly's first album was very much standard pop.

@Always Gay The lyrics are very generic. I don't see how you can read any big gay rights statement into them.

I love it – obviously pop/dance, so some of you won't like it just because of that. Personally, I love Claude Kelly's touch – it's total dance opium.

But the lyrics – it's on two levels – can you handle what I'm about to do – I betcha thought that I was soft and sweet – I'm here for your entertainment – open your mind – goes out as his first single off the album to his fans, many of whom are very vanilla and think he's such a sweet boy. He's much, much more than that. Let me entertain you 'til you scream.

Then of course on the obvious level, it's about rough sex, S&M, and fun stuff like that.

The cover reflects both those – any vanilla fan will notice the look, which screams rough sex even if they don't think "cock ring set for a chain gang" when they see the hand jewelry.

(he cock ring handwear was very popular at the GMA performance).

They said the same thing with T-Rex Easy Action – topped the pop charts.

Weight of the world…be cool, be rock, be opera, be easy listening, be something-we-never-heard-of-in-three-months-time, be an activist, change your boyfriend, be my straight, have this hair, fix your skin, get thinner…..

Ugh. I'm disappointed. Snappin' bubblegum. His performances on "Idol" (like "Satisfaction") were infinitely hotter and more engaging. This is just run-of-the-mill clubby pap.

Yes, y'all, the sound of this song is generic contemporary pop in the Britney sense of the word. But when Adam goes on tour, his live performances for this song (even his inevitable TV appearances — SNL, Today show, etc.), the vocals are gonna be outta this world.

I wonder what possessed Adam to put that cover out for the album. The cover for the single is more edgy and masculine. The album cover won't appeal to straights or gays. The drag queens will love it though. I accept Adam's lifesyle and he has definitely liberalized my thoughts on basic rights for all people. Adam knows the types of fans that saw him on tour and his performances were masculine and edgy. Now it looks like he has a different persona. Don't think he would have made it to the 36 and on to the top 10 and then final two on AI looking like the guy on the album cover. Liked the eye liner look he sports, but really the album cover is too fem and just hate it! I'll buy the album and put a different picture on it, Ha! Maybe he will change it to the picture on the single, hope so. Actually, why do I care-not sure.

Trisha, are you sure you accept Adam's "lifestyle?" Doesn't sound like it. And, actually, the album cover IS appealing to a lot of straights and gays. "Different persona"? Have you seen any of the tons of pictures from his pre-idol days? Maybe your idea of Adam, and Adam, are two different things. As for the "fans" on tour, I posted a reply to what you wrote on the album cover thread. Might answer your question about why you care so much.

Adam, you little doll face, look at all the hits you always get on these sites. Don't worry. You'll always have an audience.

No thanx. I'm sure a lot of really flamboyant gay boys will like it, but I'll pass. This guy can actually sing, but this song does not showcase his vocals. Sounds pretty watered down mainstream to me.

@ Duncan: These are hard times. I think that little sweetie wants to make him some money! That's what I'd do if I could sing like that. BTW, it's not just "flamboyant" gay boys that like to get out on the dance floor and shake butt. LOL

I can't get it out of my head, whatever that means. It isn't what I expected but I assumed until he is out from under the AI thumb, they will have a lot of say on what his sound is. I think that attributes to the watered-down Adam sound. I still like it.

Geez, Adam is a song and dance man. A really good one. But epiphanies are hard to come by. Give him a break.

BTW: Just check what sells now, that will clear up any confusion you have about what he's doing.

@Bre: AI is long gone. Every indication is that Adam is doing what he wants to do with this album.

Trisha, who cares what the "straight guys" will do??? Either they will buy the cd b/c it's good and I'm pretty sure it will be brilliant or they won't. If they can buy porn without any embarrassment, they should be able to go into a store and buy this cd.
You're one of a minority of his female fanbase who feel mugged of his "masculine" persona/image. Too bad for you. Too bad you don't understand that he's an artist and expresses his creativity in all kinds of ways, including more feminine expressions.
I love this guy's guts, creativity and risk taking.
The covers (single and album) ROCK! First single is harmless, catchy pop-dance. I'm sure it will do well to bring in new younger fans.

Go BABY!

Will they "George Michael" him? This is a syndrome wherein record company executives panic at the mere thought of male homosexuality. It causes them to hire leggy female models to attend video shoots and thus ensure that the male talent is portrayed as a stark raving hetero in his clip.

Posted: Nov 2, 2009 at 8:02 am
No. 43 · jason

If Adam allows the record company executives to "George Michael" him (see my previous post above), there will be such a huge backlash from the gay community, it may damage his career forever. We've had enough of the charades over the years wherein record company executives have been calculated and complicit in their heterosexualization of male gay or bisexual talent. We ain't gonna stand for it this time.

If record companies think they can get away with this, they are hugely, hugely mistaken.

Looks like the guy is going to do it. His album is charting at #1 on iTunes, and it hasn't even been released yet. All the snarkiness here aside, I think it's important that a way out, 24/7 gay guy is pulling this off. True, he has an extraordinary talent, but there were a lot of risks. This will have important implications for gay people in entertainment business, and, I think by extension, for all of us. Check back at that album cover, THAT'S going mainstream!

So happy for him that all his work and courage are paying off. I wish him all the beautiful houses, beautiful clothes, and beautiful guys his heart desires.
