LISTEN: Lil B’s “I Got AIDS” Sounds Surprisingly Chill Despite The Whole AIDS Thing

Not-so-subtle rapper Lil’ B named his 2011 album I’m Gay (subtitled I’m Happy) in part to raise awareness about homophobia (even though he’s straight).

Now he’s named a recent single “I Got AIDS,”  but what it lacks in subtlety and lyrical depth, it makes up for in chill beats and an upfront message about using condoms and getting tested.

The track isn’t the least bit homophobic, but Lil’ B does lay the blame for getting AIDS on his woman, who also apparently gave him herpes. So it’s a bit of a draw.

So this wannabe F-list hip hop artist is trying to be an ally to GLBT people and HIV+ people? He clearly is doing this just to self promote and does not care about GLBT issues or HIV+ people or people with AIDS. HIV is a death sentence, I know HIV+ people and people who have had AIDS and died from AIDS and I would not wish any of that on anyone.

Where can we listen? And most importantly, what does the state of Washington have to do with anything?

The *b* in Lil B must stand for *bitch*. Blame all the other people you been having sex with for you catching something. Here’s an idea, be selective about who you have sex with, and take ownership of your own actions. Take the needed precautions for you to keep you safe and healthy. Don’t blame others for not knowing. If they don’t know…you don’t go.

This reminds me of the time I put a chainsaw in Wendy’s vagoo. It was horrible. There was room to spare.

@Gary: Who cares if it is a publicity stunt? If even one homophobic rap fan listens to his “music” and takes something positive away from it, do his motivations really matter? It would be worth it to me.

@Riker: Agreed. It’s amazing how everyone on this site can get pissed off over ANYTHING.

@Allen D.: Sometimes I just don’t have enough left in the tank to RAGE RAGE RAGE at everything the gay establishment wants me to.

@Allen D.: Plus, I’m happy to let someone use us for profit if we also get something out f it, i.e. exposure. It isn’t exploitation, its symbiosis.

Lil B should be known as Lil Shit. He’s an idiot and a prick.

As for songs about AIDS, my God, is this all that we gay and bisexual men are supposed to cling to? Is this all that the mainstream is offering us in terms of “our cause”? Where are songs sung by men about loving men? Why aren’t they being played on radio stations in America and around the world?

And why is it that a female can say she’s lesbian or bisexual and get applauded for it in the form of having a number 1 hit? Why is it only women who can do this and have success with it?

It’s proof positive that American society – and America’s young people in particular – have a double standard. They are hypocrites.

Well, he SAYS he’s not gay but he’s clearly gay adjacent. Google him and check out some of his poses; he’s not exactly straight either.

I know we’re not supposed to look gift horses in the mouth, but considering how African and African American women often fall victim to AIDS because of their philandering male partners, I can’t help but cringe at the misogyny. So, I guess…Lil B: good try and thanks for having your heart in the right place, but next time try harder and educate yourself first?
