LISTEN: New Tracks From Kelis And Baby Alpaca

Seriously, how bad can your Monday really be now that this song is in your life? Kelis’ “Call On Me” sounds like a single from an artist who knows what she’s about. Rather than trot out a predictable electro-tinged pop song or slicked-up hip-hop inflected R&B, she serves up pure funk on this one. That horn section alone is enough to put a little swish in your step, and Kelis’s velvety vocals come on so smooth.

Since frontman Chris Kittrell hooked up—in the musical, not carnal, sense—with guitarist Zach McMillan, Baby Alpaca‘s dreamy, airy sound has come down to Earth a bit. And that’s definitely not a bad thing. The Brooklyn-based band’s latest single, “Sea of Dreams,” is the perfect blend of the terrestrial and ethereal: McMillan’s gentle, insistent guitar riffs anchor Kittrell’s swoony, croony vocals, and the crystaline piano pierces through the dreampop haze. The band’s latest EP is out June 25.
