Hello gorgeous! Barbra Streisand is teasing the release of Release Me, a collection of previously unreleased songs spanning her 50-year career, with “I Think It’s Going To Rain Today,” recorded in 1971 during the Stoney End sessions. It was written by Oscars staple Randy Newman (who plays piano here) and completed in just one take. That’s an unbelievable accomplishment for a noted perfectionist like Babs!
Release Me will be available on vinyl September 25 and CD October 9.

Sorry but Bette Midler spanks this song and makes it her bitch. I turned Barbra’s version off.

Nice to hear it. Such a simpler time, 1971.

@Brandon: Yes, compared to Barbra’s flawless vocalism, spot-on intonation, innate musicality, and perfect diction, Bette usually spanks a song and makes it her bitch.
MikeE
@Tessie Tura: +1 for a flawless comparison.

Streisand’s discards put other singers releases to shame.

@Brandon: Such a simple time with large sectors of the
youth dropping dangerous drugs, living on the streets, or in communes that would
later be known as dangerous cults. Oh, there was Vietnam, so innocent, Nixon, the
constant threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union. I also miss those innocent years of domestic terrorism and worrying about the Manson family. 😉
Still, Barbara was fabulous.

@Brandon: Dusty Springfield died a great version of her
own. I think all three are good for different reasons.

I think I prefer Dusty Sprigfield’s version:

Springfield, that is. 🙂

Dusty’s was great. There is also a wonderful version by Judy Collins, who you have never heard of. 🙂 but she is great, and her version is worth a listen.

@Brandon:
Well said, me too.
