Gay cable network Logo’s breaking new ground with Gayville’s first ever half-hour news show. From the press ready press release:
…CBS News on Logo will air weekly on Mondays at 7:00PM ET/PT as well as stream at 365gay.com, a leading online LGBT news hub from Logo. The show will be hosted by Jason Bellini, who will be joined by reporters Itay Hod, Chagmion Antoine and others from across the country and will be executive produced by Court Passant…
The new show will allow the CBS News on Logo team to probe beyond the day’s headlines and provide an opportunity for the in-depth exploration of issues of importance to LGBT America, tapping into the rich history and resources of CBS News.
…
“LGBT Americans will be a key voting bloc in the 2008 election and we hope CBS News on Logo will be a dynamic new platform for keeping our community informed and involved,” said Lisa Sherman, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Logo. “We’re thrilled CBS News is giving a unique LGBT perspective to the very best in television journalism.”
Hooray! Now we’ll never have to watch boring old straight news ever again! Except for Tuesday-Sunday…

LOGO has been something of a disappointment to me. With all the gay cinema available in the world. surely we could see more than Bad Girls, Bad Girls, lesbian life vignettes, Bad Girls, reruns of Queer as Folk, Bad Girls, reruns of Noah’s Arc, and, oh yes, Bad Girls. It seems LOGO has about 10 films it recycles over and over with at least 6 of them being lesbian dramas.

And there is the thing that what they do present is generally already available on DVD (in fact, as often as not, many of the things LOGO has been presenting lately have been undercutting “premiere” presentations at GLBT film festivals this year), and what they are able to present oftentimes has to be heavily edited for basic cable, which seems kind of senseless, if we can actually go onto LOGO online and buy the unedited shows on DVD and watch those instead. And, seriously, they cycle quite a bit of British gay material that’s still readily available on BBC America, so why bother?

I agree with leomoore. Every time I tune in it seems to be all lesbians all the time. Back to back Bad Girls, Surfer Girls, Lesbian Comics, lesbian film and yes Queer As Folk and Noah’s Arc ad infinitum. There is a lot of gay cinema out there, I rented a lot from Netflix and there’s a lot that Netflix doesn’t carry. I’m sure not seeing any of it on Logo. And when they do run a film, it’s a one or two shot deal and back to all lesbian fare. I went with cable to get Logo. I just may end up going back to Netflix and saving some money. The half hour news might help, but it’s not enough.
