As expected the LPGA has dropped its two-year-old requirement that players be “female at birth,” thus barring trans players like Lana Lawless, whose 254-yard drive was responsible for the new rule. Lawless wasn’t happy with the league-mandated discrimination, so she sued. The LPGA’s members, which voted on the matter, saw things her way.
@The Bony Man: I think you meant fitz. @Fitz: Shut up.

“A large and significant loss to those of us who like to encourage girls to pursue sports.”
Yeah, I’m sure that the one trans woman in LPGA is front and center in the minds of 14 year-old girls when they decide between doing the yearbook club or basketball. Seriously, get a life.

Men and women compete in different leagues for a reason. Especially in a sport like golf where upper body strength makes a big difference, people born male have no business playing in a women’s league. This is ridiculous and completely unbalances the playing field.

@missanthrope: Miss Anthrope, will you be my Mrs. Anthrope??

@D Smith: Except that there’s no requirement that a trans woman golfer be using hormones, have surgery, etc. Under the new LPGA rules, Tiger Woods could say he’s now a woman and play on their tour. Sports don’t work without a level playing field and this has just destroyed it.

@Baxter: You act like there is no oversight on these things, I think you are making a lot of speculation. If any sport group is missing a requirement of hormones it is a matter of time until it is added. Do not tell me trans people should not be allowed to play because ‘they may not be on hormones’ when most are and this is easily verifiable when someone requests to play.
She is long transitioned, clearly is using hormones, and they have clearly deemed her ok to play.

A small but significant victory. It’s important to note that this was decided by a vote by LPGA members, and not “imposed by ‘activist judges’”.
