Nearly 200 women showed up with hopes of gyrating their way onto the Miami Heat dance squad, and exactly one man.
But what Keith Wilson, 28, lacked in representation he more than made up for in spirit, which is to say he absolutely killed it.
Local 10 asked Wilson why he was vying for a spot on the all-female dance squad. “Dancing. That’s it,” he replied. “It has no gender, it has no sexuality. It’s just dance. It’s an art.”
Amen.

This isn’t the first time Wilson has showed up for the auditions, and he’s hopeful the Heat will soon see the light.
“The Heat is actually one of those organizations that’s open to anything, so I’m pretty sure — one day — it’ll happen,” he said.
And though he may not have made the squad this year, you can be sure he’ll be back to show up another batch of hopefuls next season.
“Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it because of ‘this.’ Never let anyone tell you that you’re not good enough, small enough, or fit enough,” he said. “It should always be, ‘Go for it.’”
And nobody can accuse Wilson of failing to ‘go for it’ in the below freestyle dance to Beyonce‘s “Girls.”

The reality is that “professional dancers” are there for the mostly heterosexual male crowds. That’s why there are no guys on NBA, NFL, or NHL dance teams.

Keith, though I loved your performance unfortunately we live in a society where guys your size are frowned upon. I thought while watching that for a guy your size you moved pretty fast and your balance was decent but they want a sculptured body and more “precise” moves than what you offer.
As far as the negative comments go, fuck’em. At least you got up off of YOUR ass and tried to do something positive. If you just have to be a dancer honey you are going to have to slim down/tone up a bit more for “prime” time television entertainment, which no matter what time of day its on that is all what professional sports are. Entertainment.

There are MANY mediums for males to be taken seriously as dancers and this is not one of them. He’s clearly doing it for attention and I’m sure he called the news himself.

In any case, what sort of woman would want to join a dance squad for the Miami Heat? It looks sexist for starters. It never ceases to amaze that there are women out there who will accept cash to demean themselves in front of men.
