A Virginia man who was savagely attacked over the holiday weekend says he’s “so very thankful to be alive.”
Robert Drew Inge claims he is the victim of a hate crime after he was brutally beaten inside his own home on Christmas night.

“I was thrown into my bathtub, and stomped in the face and jaw over and over while being called a ‘faggot,’” Inge wrote on Facebook.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
He said the attacker, a man he barely knew, tackled him from behind and “slammed my fingers on my right hand into the door, breaking them and ripping them open.”
“I was attacked, beaten, held against my will, stabbed in the face with a metal object and am now recovering,” Inge added on Instagram.

Inge works as a hairdresser. As a result of the incident, he says he will likely be out of work for weeks.
“I won’t be able to work as one of the injuries I sustained was my fingers I use to cut hair being crushed,” he wrote. “I don’t know the extent of damage done to my fingers but I will be back to do hair in a few weeks hopefully, and I won’t let anything stop me.”
He also said he will need “dental work to have teeth that were stomped out of my face fixed.”
Inge has launched a fundraising page to help raise money to cover his medical bills and living expenses until he can go back to work. He says his attacker, who has not been named, was arrested on various charges.

Sounds like an online hookup gone wrong. Let strange people in your home is a no no..
Richard Arduengo
sad
NateB79
@JerseyMike: That or maybe someone he met out since it says someone he barely knew. I hope the guy is ok.
BigG
Violence is awful. Wish him a speedy recovery but he’s not telling the whole story yet expects money donations. Hooking up online and meeting at your home is always risky and dangerous.
Robbie Martinez
I feel so bad for him.
joeyty
This report is from NewNowNext, so approach with caution. Dopey Dan Avery is always reporting hate crimes and when they turn out to be frauds he never even corrects the story.

@joeyty: I’m glad someone said it. There’s zero links in that original story to any credible news source, just to the donations page. If you google his name, all you find is these two articles. No legitimate news agencies. There’s something fishy about this.
joeyty
@NateB79: It’s good to be a generous person, but not good to be a fool for every sob story.
Xzamilio
Nope… I learned my lesson after El-Amin… I’ll wait for more information to come out.
JerseyMike
@Xzamilio: LMAO..
Glücklich
@BigG:
Yeah, there seems to be a lot of information missing. I’m sorry he’s injured but I want to know more about the circumstances of having a guy the victim “barely knew” inside his house only to be savaged by said stranger.
Giancarlo85
Inconclusive information. I will not judge either way.
Realitycheck
@Xzamilio: lmfao

Before this case NewNowNext listed three frauds- Rick Jones (Delta, Utah), Michael Fontana (Boston), and Haakon Gisvold- as Hate Crimes. Two of the three had GoFundMe accounts and made thousands. The only one NewNowNext and Dan Avery eventually admitted was a fraud was Rick Jones.
Larry Belusko
Sorry for your terrible circumstances. Any reason why the hate talk never made it to the police report. Spellchecker doesn’t understand “faggot”?
SpunkyBunks
Queerty left out the part where alcohol was involved.
Connie Bratten
Lord have mercy.
onthemark
@joeyty: LOL! And she sang “Santa Baby” while she did it.
Raoul Wijnands
i wanted to donate, but i couldn’t, because i don’t have a credit card and i live in Europe.

This is very sad. But, are we blaming the gay guy? What’s the consensus here — gay guy’s fault?
martinbakman
@NateB79: Beat up on Christmas and the funding site set up the next day????? Hmmmm..
Right. Searched for police records, news reports, etc. Nothing. Did find some r@cist comments he allegedly made.
joeyty
@onthemark: that too
joeyty
@martinbakman: And he’s made 6000.00 already on his GoFundMe ! I swear, P.T. Barnum was born at the wrong time.
winemaker
This sounds like someone he met on line or picked up while out for the evening at a bar or club. Sorry guys, but the days of bringing strange men home are long over, why with the possibility of being robbed, drugged or even being beaten up and possibly killed are just not worth it. Sad to say, there’re lots of sickos, straight and gay that prey on gay men. Sign of the times I guess!
Markajv
Now we need a Vetting process for Random hook-ups through Grindr and Craigslist. Just beat off it’ll save you the trouble.
Dave Downunder
So many judgemental comments here. Regardless of how they met or what he may or may not have done he still doesn’t deserve to be beaten. How about a little compassion.
DarkZephyr
I’m with all the guys who want more info. Gonna have to wait for more info myself before I even link to this in any of the groups I am a part of let alone offer monetary support.
DarkZephyr
@Dave Downunder: I don’t blame many of them. I am skeptical myself. There is so little information and we have been burned several times as it is by hoaxers and liars who make the LGBT community look bad.
NateB79
@Dave Downunder: I would never blame the victim. I look back on some of the crap I did in my 20’s: i.e. drunkenly having guys from gay.com come to my house for a hook up. I’m really lucky that someone didn’t beat the sh*t out of me too. How he met the person that allegedly attacked him is irrelevant. My whole issue is that you can’t locate anything about this story on any website search except a few gay blogs that have picked up on it and shared it. The whole situation is really strange and honestly after so many supposed victims of hate crimes that have been proven to be bunk, I think it’s smart to question things and demand more info before you donate to a cause. People research charities every day before giving to them, this is really no different.
Michael1500
This guy has “lazy sob sister” written all over him. I’ll lay odds that he was probably unemployed at the time of the “assault” and is exaggerating his situation to get donations. I certainly am very sympathetic about legitimate hate crimes against innocent persons—but cuz here doesn’t strike me as one of those victims.
NateB79
On the Advocate’s face book they shared the same story and some woman is telling everyone it wasn’t a hookup that she knows him personally and it’s a hate crime, but she isn’t offering up any information other than that. There is more holes in this story than a block of swiss cheese.
Captain Obvious
Went to his Instagram and he claims his lawyer told him he cannot tell his story for legal reasons which makes absolutely no sense. If you’ve been attacked you tell your story 100%, even the frauds tell a fake story. This isn’t making any real sense whatsoever. I agree with the folks who are waiting. Seems like the reverse of the other frauds who were getting money for claiming gay people were harming their businesses.
joeyty
@Captain Obvious: I’m starting to think people like Drew Avery and Andrew Towle actually get a percentage of the GoFundMe money everytime they report one of these Hate Crimes which turn out fake. (Haakon Gisvold; Rick Jones; Michael Fontana…) And they all DO make thousands in donations.
Glücklich
@Michael1500:
LOL “Lazy sob sister”. Can’t wait to use that one!
NateB79
@joeyty: Yet surprise surprise, enough can be shared to start up a crowdfunding page.
