A man in the UK was convicted of ‘deliberately infecting’ another man with HIV. The two were involved in a relationship, and the defendant (who has not been named) knew he had the virus, but did not tell his lover.
The conviction will most likely include time in prison.
The US has convicted several people of the same crime; in November 2005, Gary Carriker (pictured) was sentenced to two years in prison for not disclosing his HIV status when having sex with other men. Carriker actually did disclose his status, but only after being on the receiving end of “unprotected oral sex” with his accuser a few times. Whether or not they were infected (our guess is they weren’t) was not mentioned.
