Is there trouble afoot in the house of Jacobs?
According to this week’s press it would certainly appear so, but we’re not so sure all the punches are fair.
After recent rumors he’d be taking his company public, designer Marc Jacobs has now closed down a major element of his label, the comparatively affordable Marc by Marc Jacobs, amid insider reports of a dysfunctional corporate structure.
And to add insult to injury, the day after his professional setbacks were reported in The Post, Page Six went ahead and shared accounts of Jacobs using Grindr to organize a drug-fueled orgy at his home. Jacobs is reportedly sober, but GHB and meth were allegedly being passed around like discounted Marc by Marc Jacobs vests in a Nordstrom Rack dressing room.

Two years ago, Jacobs appeared to be at the top of his game. As head designer for Louis Vuitton, he received standing ovations at runway shows and was lauded by the fashion press as the American golden boy.
He says he left LV by choice, but a source told Reuters the decision may not have been mutual.
The Post details some of Jacobs’ “strange” behavior since then, from being spotted in the same outfit three days in a row (which seems like a nonissue, and and maybe the ultimate fashion statement?) to the law suit filed against him by Adidas for allegedly ripping off their design, to his falling out with long-time collaborator and photographer Juergen Teller after Jacobs insisted that Miley Cyrus was the only option for a campaign.
In June, his Marc Jacobs Collection store at the Palais Royale in Paris closed. It was around the same time he accidentally shared a nude picture on Instagram, captioned “It’s yours to try.” For the record, Jacobs’ response to that faux controversy was perfect: “I was flirting with someone I met on Instagram. Meant to send it by DM. Oops, my mistake. I apologize to anyone it offended. I’m a gay man. I flirt and chat with guys online sometimes. BIG DEAL!”

But perhaps the biggest cause for concern is his longtime friend, business partner and mess-cleaner Robert Duffy quietly stepping down from the empire. Duffy has pulled Jacobs through just about every kind of life crisis you can imagine, from professional failures to multiple bouts with drug addiction.
“That’s always a bad sign,” said veteran retail and trend forecaster David Wolfe. “You can never tell what causes a split like that — it’s like trying to look at the inside of a marriage. It’s going to have a bigger impact than one might think.”
It appears Jacobs is taking the press in stride, however. And why shouldn’t he? He’s persevered through his fair share of challenges, and remains at the end of the day a fiercely creative professional.
He took to Instagram to document the bad press, and respond to those who created it:

both a drug addict and alcoholic — so, in my opinion, an addict and alcoholic cannot really be
healthy and part of a “drug fueled orgie taboot.” Also, Jacobs has responsibility to all of the people
that rely on him (ie, they have to pay rent, mortgage, health insurance, etc.). Ultimately, Jacobs
makes his own choices but leaving hundreds of millions on the table is probably not the best choice.

This is not new news. Marc Jacobs has been engaging in such parties. This is nothing new, specifically in his profession. The fashion industry remains an abusive environment for its high end designers, who work more than a lot of people do in an entire year. They are fed drugs to keep themselves going and have over the top parties on their down time. Yes Marc is an adult and should take responsibility for his behavior but I give him the benefit of the doubt because he doesn’t have it all that easy. The fashion industry destroyed McQueen one of the greatest designers of this century, so yeah, it’s not all on Marc.

I was really beginning to tire of that place. It was overpriced (but then, what the hell ain’t over priced up there), only gave four hours and the steam room was closed. I switched to the discount nights (Sun at midnight to Friday at midday with six hours instead of four) and saw way more action but over all, I was tired of it. It wasn’t Mount Morris, which closed around 2005. I KNOW you remember that place up in Harlem. Too bad it HAD to close because of that boys academy that was built and the zoning laws (500 feet of a school). No matter how many roaches and rats ran around that place (they even had TWO cats running around in there) if you were a white guy into blacks you were never going to leave there disappointed. TRUST ME.
