Marriage Equality Activists Cause Minor Traffic Annoyance In NYC

THE SHOT — Queer Rising activists shut down traffic today in Manhattan for a whopping one minute during a demonstration demanding marriage equality. Eight people were peacefully arrested. The 75-foot yellow banner that read “NY DEMANDS MARRIAGE EQUALITY NOW!”? Confiscated by police.

In before the rush of bitter Queerty commentators saying it was a waste of time, while doing nothing themselves.

Why would anyone think it was a waste of time?
We need more people to do things like this more often in more places.

I think its awesome. I can’t see anyone being upset about this(though I am sure I will be proven wrong shortly). The tone of this site is bitter/bitchy, but we love people deep down, right? I think what these people did was awesome, and I will be visiting their website.

I wish they’d do this in Ruben Diaz’s district instead of Manhattan

      Hi Everybody,

I was one of the Queer Rising members arrested in this action, and I just want to thank you, starting with Nathan, for your preemptive comments!

Doing an action like this in Diaz’s neighborhood is a great idea! We are planning to do actions every month until we achieve marriage equality in New York State, so will have many opportunities.

If anybody wants, I encourage you to come to our weekly meetings, Sundays from 6-8pm in Room 201 of the 14th Street Y: 344 East 14th Street, between 1st and 2nd Aves, NYC.

      Best,
      Jake
