NEW YEAR'S REVOLUTION

Marriage Equality Comes To Maryland On January 1

gay wedding churchWhen you and yours toast the New Year at midnight, raise a flute to gay couples in Maryland, where  marriage equality officially goes into effect on January 1.

Applicants were allowed to file for marriage licenses earlier, so the first couples can hold ceremonies after the ball drops at midnight tonight.

Though Maine and Washington also passed same-sex marriage referendums, Maryland was technically the first to finish tallying votes on Election Night. On his official website, Governor Martin O’Malley cited the passage of Question Six one of the highlights of the year for Marylanders.
