The Golden Girls Nation
“Everyone wants someone to grow old with,” says Estelle Getty’s character Sophia. “And shouldn’t everyone have that chance?” Yes, Sophia. Yes they do. Even foul-mouthed, old ladies in nightgowns deserve some good, clean lesbian love.
@Erich: maybe because the two guys actually KISS and look like they are in love?
I love that Australian one, but honestly, I find the hug at the end a bit anti-climactic. I’d have preferred a beautiful romantic kiss. I mean, who reacts to a marriage proposal with, of all things, a *hug*!!??

What a joke. You’re expecting a daughter of a sitting President to stand up against her dad while he’s still in office? And, you expect her to do this while she’s still in college? Yeah Right. Even B. Obama isn’t for marriage equality and if Michele was, she’d never speak out about it while her husband is President. Not to mention that speaking out for NY marriage equality in 5 – 10 years ago wasn’t even on the agenda of most politicians, let alone the daughter of a sitting President. I just love how some people look for ways to speak negatively about a conservative when there are so many Democrat leaders who STILL won’t stand up for us. I’m still waiting for our Commander In Chief to have the guts to evolve. It’s 2011 and Obama is still sitting in the safe zone.

CJ, so do you think Romney or Gingrich will be any better if they get to the White House? What exactly is the GOP going to do about marriage equality? How many in the GOP support it aside from the Governor of New Mexico, Fred Karger, republican civil libertarian Ron Paul who I might add also supports DOMA if states legislate for it, and four republican politicians in NYS compared to the number of democrats who do? No president of the U.S. can run a campaign supporting marriage equality, especially a democrat, at least not currently. It’s political suicide for now.

There is another great one from Ireland, called Sinead’s Hand, I believe. A guy goes around to all of these strangers asking for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. Finally the commercial asks how one would feel if they had to ask 4 million people to get married. It’s pretty cute:

@Evan: Hello other Evan! I saw that one but thought the other one was a little more poignant. That one is good though!

@Cam: Exactly. There seemed to be as many or more straight people in the Cali & Maine ads than actual gay/lesbian couples.
It was stupid enough for Cali not to personalize the importance/effect civil marriage would have on gay/lesbian couples. For Maine to REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKE (WTF are “Maine ways?”) is incomprehensibly more stupid.

I like the Maine ad called “Sam Putnam”. Check it on YT. Also, nearly every Maine ad had gay people in them. I thought No on 1 had a good ad campaign. They lost b/c their get out the vote effort was inadequate and they were outmatched in that area by the other side.

Robert in NYC, my point is that this article takes a shot at the situation with George Bush’s daughter speaking up for marriage equality years after he’s out of office… and yet there are PLENTY of Democratic examples where equality is essentially ignored. Michele won’t speak up when her hubby’s in office – nor should we have any expectations upon George Bush’s daughter (or wife) to have said anything while he was in office. Whether we like it or not, 99% of Democrats in office were against marriage equality less than 20 years ago. As we can clearly see, Republicans are slooooooowly coming around.

The Golden Girls was so ahead of its time.
