Maryland Lawmaker Peter Murphy Comes Out Before He Casts His Pro-Marriage Vote

Peter Murphy, a Democratic Maryland state delegate, is a father of two. Divorced. A grandfather of two little ones. And he’s about to vote on whether his gay constituents should have the right to marry the ones they love — an effort he thinks is a slam dunk. Oh, and this just in: Murphy is gay himself.

“I have never denied” being a homo, Murphy insists. “I just presumed people knew.” (He claims officials at Equality Maryland knew he played for our team.)

Nope, we didn’t, but we do now, and we’re glad to welcome you to the fold. Or rather, your colleagues are: Murphy’s pre-vote announcement makes him the legislature’s eighth openly gay member. Now the obvious follow up question: Is this silver fox single?
