This is a clarification for those of you who want me to make a triple X resurgence under the glare of a professional camera. Mason Wyler, the porn performer, is dead. Actually @steve Mason was not at a higher risk for sleeping with porn performers on set. Quite the contrary. As a former performer I know that almost all major studios have very stringent testing policies. If not that they actually care for their performers than for the simple fact that if they don’t have stringent testing it can result in big lawsuits.
Mason’s big problem is that 1. he did not change is twink look to a muscle look as he got older. People want to see a porn actor grow up just like they do a normal actor.
2. Mason worked with EVERY studio at some point. It is often more profitable for a performer to ink short term 6 month-1 year exclusive contracts with 1 company. That way they can be promoted by that company and do appearances with that promotion. He skipped from major studios like Falcon to rinky dink websites.
I don’t think this has a lot to do with Mason’s status, I think it has a lot more to do with his decisions to work with a lot of studios, not change his body, and his very vocal blog that kind of takes away the “mystery and allure” of watching a porn performer on screen.

With that in mind, I want to state the complexity of my views, good and bad, about the subject. Other times, it protects us from bad things- decreasing (not eliminating, but decreasing) the chance of getting a disease we don’t want for example.

I think that a preference is best left “packed” rather than explored/explained. I simply stated that the virus can, and often IS, transmitted with *just one* mistake. The pretense that this virus requires someone to be “reckless” is what I find offensive, and what is in fact putting gay men in danger. When we presume that the virus infects those who are “reckless”, we place those who are infected into a camp where, by default, most people don’t see themselves. It is this very mentality which has lead many gay men to conclude that they are not at risk when in fact our infection rate is rising, and our cumulative lifetime liklihood of infection is staggeringly high. It is this very pretense that drives people with the virus further into the closet, convinces certain people not to get tested and complicates disclosure. All of this feeds the rate of infection.

Testing isn’t a prevention – testing is done after the fact; it analyzes the results of your decisions. Getting tested doesn’t PREVENT you from getting anything. As a former performer, the fact that you don’t seem to understand that scares me.

Most of your thinking process, if I can call it that, amounts to “we should all have the right to make our own decisions.” To which, I would respond, “Yes, and people have the right to question your judgement.” Sometimes that works out good for you if they want to emulate you,a nd other times, as here, theya re going to think the judgment bad. its incredibly lazy to say “its not right to have a judgment.” My guess is this stems from some false sense of being open minded. An open mind does not require that we ignore the probabilities involved in his activities, what this means for those in a relationship with him , etc. My view of reality allows me to see all the facts. Yours requires a dogmatic denial of them.

While becoming HIV positive has been, for some people, an opportunity to do something positive like advocating for safe sex and sending out a strong message to any gay person and especially young gay men, he’s doing the exact opposite by being one sad example of an individual with hopeless and irresponsible conduct, that encourages and promotes on his blog the same dangerous sexual behavior that brought him into the state of depression he is clearly experiencing.
I’d feel pity for someone who unluckily became HIV positive, for example, because of a broken condom, but not for you, Mason. I do wish that you’ll seek some psychological counseling though so that you will finally realize how wrong it is to keep promoting bareback sex.
