Queerty is better as a member
It’s nice to know that even a Jock can be eventually be trained to cut-and-paste a pretty speech from the NOM manual for Paid Posters.
I hope he spends his $7.25 wisely! Like, on beer.
I never expected any jockstrap or christian to support equal rights for gays ever. So no surprise there. I am still shocked that we queers haven’t been rounded up and put in death camps. And these bigots always hide behind their children. I feel sorry for any of his kids if they turn out gay. My dad was a macho religious homophobic ass. Total bummer man!
In the final analysis, if heterosexuals who are hell-bent on keeping marriage as between one man and one woman accept the removal of ALL governmental support related to marriage (tax breaks, etc…) and legal protections (hospital visitation rights, etc…), then sure.
The minute the government is involved in any way, shape or form, then ALL citizens MUST have the right to the institution in question, in this case, marriage.
The minute the law gives one class of citizens rights that another class does not, it is wrong.
And I’m sorry, but promoting the UN-equality of citizens IS discrimination, and thus makes one a bigot. It’s not “name calling”. Denying citizens equality is the only thing that is “not respectful” in this whole discussion.
@Dumdum: you want death camps? vote for Romney. you know, if Romney should die during his term that a dictator FAR worse than any history has ever known is next in line for the Oval Office.
@Dumdum: Pretty big stretch there between the inability to marry and being rounded up and put in death camps. And where, exactly, are all these death camps that Christians are apparently sending us by the truckload? You guys talk about them all the time, so of course they must exist.
Does he realize that his speech had a few contradicting points and that the only difference between his speech and of which the (rightfully labeled) bigots is what that he’s not spreading every lie about the gay community possible.
although the children argument is useless because it’s not like this is super advanced math or science. it’s simple social stuff that you just tell them. some boys like boys and some girls like girls and they want to spend the rest of their lives together. just like how most boys and girls want to be together.
My deepest sympathies to any children that have that guy as a dad.
You’re either with us, or against us; when you try to block us from getting equal rights, you are against us.
Hey dickwad! You want to see gays being put into ovens and starved.. then look back a mere 70 years in Europe…
Perfect example of parenting, done the wrong way.
“Marriage redefinition will affect the broader well-being of children and the welfare of society.”
Yes, it will. It will mean that our children grow up in a country where all citizens have equal rights.
I hate christians
Won’t somebody please think of the children!!!
Birk, like the cowardly McFrisky, is simply repeating the bigoted buzz-terms of his prejudiced and bigoted family.
he was raised by bigots and is repeating their bigotry. exact same thing gay republicans do.
“we dont’ care about gay marriage!’ they say. wanna know why? because if they did take a stand for LGBT Equality their parents wouldn’t “tolerate” them anymore.
To the troll (and he IS a troll) who disputed the idea that some Christians want to put us in death camps:
The world is NOT a sun-shiny place for many many LGBT folks.
it’s why i don’t have hope for the world now
LOL. He didn’t have to speak out about that. We already knew that. He must have a book coming out and needs to be on FOX for sales and I guess this was his ticket.
@ChiChi Man: it’s why I’ve lost hope for the world now
Being black, left-handed or being gay is just as natural. It is a sometimes rare occurrence to fall in Love and to hold that person in your heart and be loved in return … it is something that should be celebrated! If it’s between two guys or two girls — all the better. It takes even more courage to defend that LOVE!
The evil writings in Leviticus 18:22 … against gays – depict: “P” … “priestly rules” & expanded by the pope; homophobes and religious frauds … to attack the gay community and never meant to apply to the public — but to priests. Leviticus was written long after Moses — 600BC.
There is no scientific evidence to prove any of the cross related bogus elements of christianity and other religions. Our early human ancestors; on this earth … go back more than 6 million years … 5,996,000 years before the Greeks, Romans and the Jews. Christianity is basically a 2012 year old fictional cult.
In the year 300 AD when Emperor Constantine, who to some was the first pope; went on to fabricate & market Christianity!
Christianity is a fantasy; which turned out to be one of the most hateful & evil concoctions ever perpetrated on the world.
Typical evangelical christian.
My husband and I recently celebrated our 32nd anniversary (we were married in 2009 on our 29th anniversary). We’ve raised five wonderful children together (all adopted at birth), and our kids now range in age from 27 down to 17.
Matt Birk is an ignorant homophobe. He apparently likes to think he’s better than that since he doesn’t spew anti-gay slurs, but he’s a bigot nonetheless. I guess he doesn’t consider the right to marry the person you love a “basic human right.” What a jerk.
@Steve: Well, one would have to possess common sense to acknowledge that the Nazis of 70 years ago weren’t Republicans, but no one ever accused liberals of having common sense. And it’s funny that you know my nickname is “Dickwad,” due to the unusually voluminous freight I carry between my legs. I guess you’ve seen me around.
I thought you guys preached tolerance? Why not tolerate our viewpoint that marriage is between a man and a woman… It’s not a hate crime to believe in the bible and support traditional marriage.
@Ogre Magi: Please don’t lump all Christians into the same group, please. I’m openly gay and Christian. We will never have 100% agreement on any of these issues, but promoting division and saying all Christians are alike makes as much sense as the Tea Party folks saying that all gays are the same. We’re not. We need to take care that we don’t “hate the haters”…that puts us down on their level, and we are all better than that…just MY point of view, I realize.
I really admire Matt Birk for taking such a bold and courageous stance on this important issue. It’s about time someone had the cahones to speak for the majority of non-bigoted Americans, and their God-given right to reject the obvious rights of others.
Another typical muscleman… all muscle, no brain! I am so glad we have better examples of sportspersons than this dolt.
@CoachCool: Congratulations on your relationship,children and marriage! THAT is what it’s all about!
“I guess he doesn’t consider the right to marry the person you love a “basic human right.” What a jerk.”
Should I be able to “marry” my sister? Is that a basic human right?
@ChiChi Man: As a gay man and certainly a supporter of marriage equality, I have to (with some distaste)agree with McFrisky that all this death camp stuff is pretty hyperbolic. Yes, I know what that idiot pastor said about electrified fences, etc–and I could skim the Internet and find dozens of equally crazy things coming from both the right and the left, and 99% of it would be meaningless because it doesn’t connect to anything in the actual, real world. I know extreme, excitable statements are rather the norm on a comments thread, but there really should be a limit; going from same-sex marriage bans to extermination doesn’t even qualify as dubious slippery-slopism, it’s so far out.
Issues of discrimination in the United States against LGBTQ people are real, as are the people and groups advocating it; let’s focus on what’s actually happening, and maybe avoid hysterically hunting the ghosts of Nazis past.
@deanpierce: Hate the hate but love the hater?
@sozei: It’s not a hate crime to have your thoughts about marriage. It does point to you having a significant character flaw when you pass laws to impose your thoughts about marriage. I find divorce to be one of the worst forms of child abuse that a parent can inflict upon their child. However, you don’t see me running around the country attempting to take away the kids of parents who have divorced or make it impossible for divorced people to remarry. I have my views about divorce but I don’t attempt to impose them on anyone else. Huge difference between having your beliefs and using your beliefs to squash other people.
@sozei: Have your viewpoint about marriage, and you’re welcome to it. Now explain why you feel the need to impose your personal viewpoint on everyone else.
@sozei: Ah, the “incest” trope. I have a question for you: who did Adam and Eve’s children marry?
So there should be no laws for marriage? Should I be able to marry my sister or my mother?
How about polygamy?
@sozei: It was only a matter of time until we got to the polygamy thing. Ever hear of King Solomon?
Um, breaking news question, why are we paying any attention to an ignorant
roided-up (check the skin), football player!!!?? He is the past, the straight
players in all sports who support equality for all are the future, we should be
be giving them a big social media hug so that others will see that it’s a good
thing to come out of the “I support equality” closet. Don’t pay attention to the
haters, support our supporters instead. Like President Obama says: Don’t boo, VOTE!!
Definition of marriage -Oxford-
1 – the formal union of a man and a woman, typically as recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife:
It seems to me that you are the one trying to impose your viewpoint on the subject…not me.
who needs “death camps” when the american right-wing is doing a more than adequate job driving LGBT youth to suicide?
Can’t please everyone. Anyway, its up to the Supreme Court to decide DOMA now.
I love seeing bigots express their opinions. It makes winning Equality that much sweeter.
And yes, we WILL FORCE all States to comply!
To be openly gay and Christian, you must belong to a
Christian church that -rejects- the Old Testament and
uses on the teachings of Christ (the New Testament)
himself as the basis of your faith. Just thought you’d want
to know that. The Old Testament and Christ are not compatible
with each other, that is why they called it The New Testament.
They crucified Christ because of his beliefs.
Kudos to Birk. ITA with his stance. Marriage is one man/one woman. Gay couples aren’t being rounded up and put into a paddy wagon for engaging with each other anymore; in my opinion, that’s enough. Leave marriage alone.
I love how these anti guys never have a reason as to why same-sex marriage will affect the children and what exactly it will “do” to them. They either don’t give any kind of reason at all other than that it will affect the children, OR they make themselves seem like utter morons by saying something like all children will be pressured to become gay.
@BJ McFrisky: UGANDA (supported totally by American Christians).
@DuMaurier: Don’t you realize that accepting even a little bit of this anti-gay bias allows the underlying fear and bigotry to fester? It always has and it always will, whether it’s homophobia, racism or gender bias. Get past it. I say to all Christians: Have some “faith” in your fellow man and quit trying to control the honorable intensions of people you don’t understand.
These people by definition do not believe is Science. They don’t care that all reputable medical, psychological, and scientific bodies have all declared homosexuality a normal variation on human sexuality. They believe it’s a choice and that by normalizing gay marriage, gay families, and gay relationships, it will “infect” their kids. I am not against Christianity/Religions, just its misuse to justify hate. And clearly this guy is misusing his religion to justify his bigotry. Yes, this guy is a bigot. He can disguise his bigotry in flowery language, but in this case, the shoe definitely fits. He needs to wear his own shoes and just own up to his hatred of gays.
@sozei: Actually the “typically as recognized by law” spells it out very clearly. The state gets to decide whom is married. So then the question becomes do we do it the way the contemporary Christian community wants to do it, or do we do it in a way that is equal to all.
Our history shows that when the Mormons wanted polygamy and pointed to the bible, the contemporary Christians won out even though they went against the bible to do it. When it was question of interracial marriage (which had most christians making the “its for the kids who shouldn’t be mixed race” argument) the equality for all finally won out and the Christians acted like they never fought it in the first place.
The dictionary isn’t telling us how it should be, it is defining how it is now. We all know how it is now. The question is: is it right? You’re on the wrong side of history, sozei. But it may take you a few years to discover that. We still have Christians opposed to interracial marriage, and Mormons with a hankerin’ for sister-wives.
@erasure25: And specifically, this guy is a bigot because he automatically assumes that gay = bad. Why does he think that being gay is terrible and would negatively affect his kids? His disposition that gay automatically is a bad hoorible immoral thing is why he is definitely a bigot.
@MickeyP.: Thanks, Mickey! My husband and I have always said that love makes a family. When we adopted our first child (way back in 1985) it was pretty trailblazing, but now almost half the gay couples we meet are having kids. Times sure are changing!
In any case, this issue will be resolved by the time the next generation takes over. Without exception, ALL of our kids’ friends and classmates are totally okay with same-sex marriage.
@sozei: Sozei, you’re a sad soul, my friend. You need to get some therapy to deal with your issues. But in the meantime, I happen to think that my husband deserves the same 1,400+ federal rights and benefits that your spouse receives (assuming that you’re married).
As just one example, if I’m hit by a bus tomorrow, my husband won’t be able to collect one penny of my Social Security benefits (despite our having spent 32 years together, and raising five kids). Do you really think that’s fair?
“They don’t care that all reputable medical, psychological, and scientific bodies have all declared homosexuality a normal variation on human sexuality”
It’s based on fraudulent research done by Alfred Kinsey. Today, Kinsey’s ‘junk science’ is the unquestioned foundation for all the legal, legislative and media debate on marriage and civil unions.
If you were given the 1,400+ federal rights and benefits entitled to married couples …but we called it a civil union instead of a marriage…would that be acceptable to you?
@sozei: Honestly, that might be acceptable to some gay couples. However, most gay couples would probably argue that since we’re talking about civil marriage (and not religious marriage), anything less than that would be treating us as second-class citizens.
Of course, for the tens of thousands of gay couples who are already legally married (like me and my husband), you obviously wouldn’t expect us to be willing to annul our marriage. That horse is WAY out of the barn.
@sozei: I don’t know that civil rights is a subject for negotiation, but in the interest of discussion, what rights would you be willing to trade for the accommodation of calling same-sex marriage something other than what it is?
I want to marry my sister…but the state won’t let me. Do you support my civil right to marry the woman I love?
@greybat: You beat me to the punch,
greybat! I definitely support Birk’s[birk=fool in Britain,BTW]
right to divorce his wife and marry Brian Brown of DOM.
With luck,the happy couple could have either Rev. Phelps of
Westboro Baptist,or Tony Perkins of the FRC officiate! Maybe
Michelle Bachmann could be Maid of Honor.
@sozei: Sorry, dude, but your sister just texted me and said she doesn’t want to marry you. It’s got to be a two-way street. Hey, maybe your cousin is available.
@Little-Kiwi: I think your saying
that the right-wing has driven gay teens to suicide is a little
over the top,Little Kiwi.The r-w certainly doesn’t help,but I think
these tragedies are most often caused by self-rejection/self-hatred
fueled by a general societal[& too often,religious]negative take
on homosexuality and of what is “normal”.
Thanks for equating the right-wing and Republicans
@sozei: sozei,You need to do a little
research,if you are capable of that.The Psychiatric Association’s
removal of homosexuality from the list of disorders came in the early
1970s,and was NOT based on Kinsey.
Once again[it never ceases to amaze & confound me]we have[in this
case,YOU,sozei]a,probably conflicted,gay-hater posting snide comments
on this LGBT site.Please get help and go away!
Why do these sickos waste our time and theirs making hateful,
anti-gay comments on a gay site?!?
I’m so glad to hear from Matt Birk that not all NFL players are pro gay marriage. Because only a small few are, I was stupid enough to assume that EVERY other NFL player was too. Thank you for clarifying that Mr. Birk.
Thank you too for telling us how Christian’s HATRED for us should not effect us in anyway, because we should realize that they are true Christians and have only love in their hearts for us, and that we should not feel threatened by their non-stop hatred. And we should also not feel threatened by the slanderous lies they tell about us.
Let me ask you about the bullying of gay students, Mr Birk, many who seem to think that suicide is the only answer, because they are forced to listen to Christians and preachers and adults and peers, relentlessly tell them that they are worthless pieces of shit. My question to you is this — should the gay community tell these students that they should just ignore the non-stop verbal and physical assaults on them because Jesus loves them? Or should we tell them to get on their knees because they are sinners, and ask Jesus to forgive them?
Mr Birk, If you’ve been a tireless worker to let gay teens know that you, as a Christian, love them regardless of their sexuality, then go ahead and state your views. Views which to us mean to us that you don’t think we have the right to exist.
Tell us why we shouldn’t feel this way. As far as people calling you names, tell us, Mr Birk, how difficult it is for you. Remember, I’m gay and I’m also fucking idiot. Tell me how bad it is for you to be called “hateful”, and I’ll tell you what it feels like to be hated by MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people, many of them Christians, who don’t even know us. Don’t you feel better now, Mr Birk, now that you’ve told us how tolerant you and many other Christians are?
@sozei: Plenty of states & countries have allowed same sex couples to marry and there has been no move to allow polygamy or incest. Your argument is a slippery slope and facts have proven it doesn’t happen. Thus, you have no argument. Try again, but with logic next time.
@sozei: Sozei, it’s based on more than Kinsey’s research. The fact you don’t know this would indicate you have no earthly idea what you’re talking about. Please rejoin the conversation when you’ve done your research. Until then you’re making yourself look rather stupid.
@sozei: But sozei, if you marry your sister, who will your two-headed children marry?
Think of the children.
@sozei: Interesting that all you
anti-same sex marriage folks say that Marriage being defined as the
union of a man and a woman is defined in the Bible.My question,
sozei,is:Where? I ask this as one brought up in,and formerly a
member of a Bible-only fundamentalist church.
My other question is a repetition of what I asked you before:
Why are you here?People of your ilk,and unfortunately there are,
have been,and probably will be many,are,I suspect,sexually-troubled,
self-loathing closet cases.
@LaTeesha: Thank you,LaTeesha!!
I’ve done my research and I fully understand that you don’t want to credit that sick individual,Kinsey, to the changes made at the APA … but you can’t deny his “research” was very influential for the homosexual agenda.
call anybody who disagrees with your lifestyle a Homophobe , a bigot or a closet case.
Just to let you know…I’ve read the literature from homosexual activists and understand the use of rhetoric, psychology, social psychology, and the media – all the elements of modern marketing– to position homosexuality in order to frame what is discussed in the public arena and how it is discussed.
@sozei: Perhaps you can cite the research that tells you that Kinsey’s work was very influential for the gay agenda. Also, for someone who has done his research and then calls Kinsey a sick individual without telling us why or what you read that leads you to that conclusion, makes me wonder if you even have a clue. Also, what exactly is the gay agenda, and please cite your references. Now, let’s talk about YOUR agenda.
@Avenger: !? WHY?!?
@sozei: NO,sozei,YOU are the
classic,but there’s no sense in arguing with a fool.
I will ask two questions before I go,however:
1]:How do you know what my “lifestyle” is like? YOU DON’T.
2]:Repeat question:For the 3rd time}Why are you here?
@sozei: sozei,WHAT,pray tell is
the “homosexual agenda”?
@Musk: Bravo,Musk! Beautifully
@sozei: “I want to marry my sister…but the state won’t let me. Do you support my civil right to marry the woman I love?”
No, I don’t support your wish to marry your sister. But I do support you if you want to marry your golden retriever. Because, ya see, your logic and argument deserves just about that much of a response.
P.S. F*ck you.
Queerty (since you won’t post my other comment) why is @sozei even here? I thought the reason behind this member system was to keep people like him away?
and speaking of @sozei: why did you become a member to a gay news site in the first place?
1-800-McFrisky…… helping the GOP and anti-gay cause daily!
*** The National Organization for Marriage approves this message
And, of course….. he’s a “christian” Imagine that.
@Aidan8: Aidan8!Nice to see you
back and slinging your great zingers[#s 74,76].Keep up the good work!
He is not “JUST” Christian! he is what we call in Behavioral Modification, “Mental poverty” and white trach as most white Christian American, are.
@Mjl-428: Thanks,Mjl-428!I’ve asked
@sozei that question 3 times,so far. Maybe he’ll respect you enough
to answer it[and maybe the moon really is made of green cheese!].
As for Queerty’s comments policy:Sucks doesn’t it? Homo haters flock
to this site,spew their vitriol repeatedly[sometimes for days and days]
andwhen Queerty finally block s them,it also throws the replies to their
most recent diatribes into the “comment awaiting moderation” toilet.
@sozei: Tolerance? It works both ways. I tolerate your right to believe that marriage is, as interpreted by 21st-century christians, between one man and one woman. We know, however, that marriage was not so defined in the Old Testament which modern christians are wont to refer to in order to add misguided legitimacy to their arguments. I tolerate your ability to selectively seek out leviticus and choose only those parts of the priests’ injunctions while ignoring the others. I am confident you are familiar with the old testament’s prohibition of eating shellfish, pork; of wearing certain types of cloth; of sleeping with a woman during her menstrual cycle; of maintaining a kosher kitchen with separate pantry, utensils, and appliances to separate the foods. Given that I and many gay/bi/lesbian/transgender are tolerant of your hypocrisy in the face of clear religious directives, we certainly challenge you to at least “man up” and be christian as the jesus you claim to worship and perhaps follow the two commandments he told his followers to adhere to: (1) Love god above all, and (2) love your neighbor as yourself. We also ask that you review the only prayer he taught you wherein you say “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Pretty heavy stuff.
If I come off as condescending to your bigotry, live with it. I used to ignore bullying or disguised intolerance…but not anymore.
@manxxxx: Very nice,manxxxx!
@MikeE: You are spot-on. I think this is the crux of the debate and I rarely read or hear anyone invoking this point, that it’s not so much about marriage itself, rather the rights our government has bestowed upon this, otherwise, strictly religious covenant. I appreciate the emotional arguments about marriage equality, which give our plight heart and soul, but it’s this logic that’s truly the heart of the matter.
I think we need to let this idiot as well as thousands of anti-equality bigots know that we are not zip off their mouths. We’ll let them run their loud mouths, but we will let them know how much piles of crap they and their opinions are. They earned every right to be ridiculed, to be mocked off, to be isolated, so they can have a bit of understanding what the LGBT people has gone through. The irony is even though this moron claimed to be pro-life, he doesn’t have a fucking clue what a woman or mother has to gone through in this world.
For right-wing and Matt Birk, “justice” means “just us christians”.
@Guillermo3: Better yet, I wonder why that homophobe is even visiting a gay site? Sounds like he may be another self-hating, closeted homosexual (if so, he joins a long list). Pretty sad.
@KARUADAM: Great comments,KARUADAM!
However,I would disagree that most that MOST American Christians are
white trash:far too many are,and it’s an ancient story, the ignorant,
some who feel disenfranchised,or oppressed,and certainly the power-
mad,use religion,politics_any belief you can name to tear down

against non-existent threats[usually by attacking them].
Unfortunately,many of those who abhor and fear same-sex marriage
in this country are black,and,yes,most of them are
Please do us[and yourself] a favor,KARUADAM:Your thoughts are good,
but your writing in English is terrible.Please work on it.Don’t give

sad and all too frequent here_sozei is one of many.
I can understand from long,very wasteful experience
the tragedy of staying closeted and self-rejection,
if not self hatred.What I can’t understand is the gain for the
angry self-haters in going on the attack.Perhaps projecting
their anger towards themselves on others gives them temporary
relief,and/or fodder for more denial.
“Ideas have consequences” – i really don’t get this guy. He thinks being gay is an “idea”? Like i woke up one saturday morning and had an “idea” that i should become attracted to other guys instead of women? DOes this guy realize how profoundly ignorant that sounds? Me thinks he protests to much – he is a center, right? (joke)
bigot = One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ. If he figured out he fell in love with a woman and married her and had kids, then I think that is wonderful for him and his family, terrific – he did what he was attracted to do. what he was drawn to do. However, he IS the definition of a bigot if he would not want one of his children to be gay or someone else to have the same freedom and pursuit of happiness that he has experienced. We ALL that that RIGHT. If you don’t believe in marriage equality, then DON’T marry someone of the same sex. Same with abortion – if you don’t believe in it, then don’t have one. i have known too many parents that rejected their gay children until they died of aids and then it was too later. It is devastating for a parent to lose a child, but to lose them twice? Wake up people and love your children and others for the real person they are, not for what you might believe (or your idea) of what is right.
@brokeback gypsy: Thanks once more,
brokeback gypsy_great observations,as usual,especially your last
paragraph/last line.Some religious ,philosophical,political beliefs
are just that:BELIEFS,often deeply,sincerely held.You can disagree
with beliefs,but having them is everyone’s right.The often
tragic problems occur when people try to impose their beliefs.
As for sexual orientation/same-sex marriage:I wish everyone
could realize[as I did,very belatedly]
that it doesn’t fucking matter.
