McCain: Congratulations Obama

John McCain plans to air this congratulatory ad after Barack Obama's officially accepts the Democratic Party's presidential nomination tonight.

In it, McCain notes that "Too often the achievements of our opponents go unnoticed," and describes the timing as "perfect." Today's the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech.

Nicely done, McCain: you'll look cheery and light ahead of your vice-presidential speech. And, honestly, you sound sincere.

There's something very creepy about this.

Sincere, I am not so sure.

Unfortunately after the new ad they started airing today and a successful convention so far this is WAY to calculated and transparent.

Sorry, would love to believe this well performed act is genuine but since he voted time and time again against celebrating the life of MLK, its hard for me to buy it now.

I am sure it will be effective in middle america though.

I'll tell you what is creepy, Jesse. It is this walking liver spot invoking Dr. King after fighting tooth and nail to prevent his birthday from being recognized. That's creepy.

He's about as sincere as Col. Tigh on Battlestar Galactica shouting that he isn't a Cylon… and he looks just like him, too.

This commercial shows how much of douche bag McCain is and will turn off many voters.

Jim, no reason to insult Tigh.

Anyone who falls for this obvious political ploy is a moron. This is a wolf in sheep's clothing attempt to take some prime media time and emphasis away from the biggest day of the Dems Convention. It's already being followed up by a barrage of RepubliCons stating that the stadium setting has been built like a Mt. Olympus home for Zeus (they've called Obama Moses and The Messiah in the past few weeks–now they're saying his celebrity ego is as huge as the mythological King Of The Gods.) In truth, McCain is a dementia-befuddled old coot who longs to put his finger on the bomb button and kill a few thousand more American soldiers along with hundreds of thousands of civilians who never did anything to the USA. Amazing to me that people could know all of this and then go "Awwwww, isn't that nice?" when he drops a TV ad feigning praise and respect for Obama. Gimme a fuckin' break, folks–this is how we wound up with Dubya The Village Idiot and Darth Cheney in power for 8 years!

Leftist, America-hating Democrats like Larry in Dallas show what they're made of with comments attacking the war hero McCain. What have YOU ever done for your country. I'm sure not much at all.

Sincere? He doesn't sound sincere at all, and has an asshole smirk on his face, as if saying "This is all nice, congrats, but I'll get you back for this!"…..

Don't be fooled by this fake sincerity. It's not over yet. 2 more months till election day!

Oh get off it, Eddie! He got shot down, and suffered horrible things, but that doesn't mean he gets a free ride to denigrate fine Americans and be a general asshole because of it for the next 30 years.

You get off it ChristopherM. I'm damn sure he's done more than you as well. And whom did he denigrate fine Americans?

Blah blah blah war hero, blah blah blah…The fact is that this fool voted time and time again to prevent MLK's birthday to become a holiday, and yet he calls today a "historic" day? Bitch please. Easy Lay – you want to know what I've done for my country? I've voted Democrat every single time!

I feel we should all remember that these both candidates are politicians so we can expect some pandering from both sides.

Ricci: Again, bitch please, one side hates us and one side supports us. End of story.

I throw my lot in with Eddie and Ricci. We're awfully quick to be cynical and question Senator McCain's motives; no, actually, there's no questioning about it. We're awfully quick to paint him with the same brush as Rush Limbaugh.

Did he vote against MLK Day in Congress when it was first introduced? You betcha. Maybe it was because he's a true Republican at heart in that he believes in small government, and mandating holidays for civic leaders is not a hallmark of small government. Or, maybe it was because really a Death Eater and was long-ago brought into the services of He Who Must Not Be Named. lol, or maybe he's just Beezlebub.

See how silly this gets? He voted against it, then, in 1990, he used his support to help dedicate MLK Day in Arizona. I'm assuming this was before he knew race would be an issue in the 2008 election. But you never know with those Death Eaters.

He should congratulate Obama – he only tried to block the MLK Holiday 100 times.

Ha ha KevinM,

you are so rational!

Not an apologist at all!

How's Stockholm this time of year?

Me, I'm on the mindset of everyone else:

McCain is a smarmy sleezeball.

Ha

I hope that Mr. Obama takes a page from Mr. McCain's book and airs a commercial that wishes him a very happy 72 birthday – that's quite an achievement. It is a very special achievement to own 9 homes at that age when most men and women his age can't afford their medication and eat cat food. Congratulations, Mr. McCain. Now, repair Social Security.

Actually, Kevin, that was funny and ironically the only thing I have read so far that makes sense.
