This kind of scheming is usually relegated to the plot lines of the kinds of network shows Colton Haynes acts in, but Arrow costar Stephen Amell reveals he was targeted by a fan trying to “out” Haynes.
Haynes, who was something of a well-known in gay circles but only publicly came out earlier this month, has said he’s “never been happier” since his decision to confirm he’s gay.
Haynes’ costars, including Amell, were all supportive. “I’m so happy for Colton,” Amell told E!
But a few months ago, Amell had an odd interaction with a fan at a Comic-Con.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Here’s how he tells it:
“A fan three or four months ago at a Comic-Con convention basically tried to bait me into outing him.
“I got in touch with [Colton] and was like, ‘Hey, man, this happened [and] I didn’t know what to say. I simply deflected and we moved on.’
“He emailed me back and said, ‘You know, I really appreciate that and I’ve recently made some decisions over the past few months and I’m excited about what’s in the future.’”
Curiouser and curiouser.
“As long as he is living his best life and he is at his most happy, because that is stuff that I’ve seen him struggle with,” Amell added.
We’re glad everything worked out OK.

Rather ironic since Amell got his start playing a buff straight guy on Dante’s Cove. ….. Anyways, my congrats to Haynes. May his future be awesome.

Did colton really struggle with being gay in all with a gay brother, who has a family and with supportive friends.. or was he worried about his career? I mean someone people who have no support. From so called friends pr family… so I hope he wasn’t struggling out of rejextion because he had support. I mean how lucky it is to have a gay sibling lol…

@CWM85: Everyone’s experience with coming out is different; there is no universal or cure all way Everyone’s decision should be respected and consent should be the focus. Coming to terms with one’s sexuality in a country that is still homophobic is not easy; and Haynes also has to deal with the stigma of mental health issues. We need to stop shaming people because they’re not giving in to our demands to come out and work on making a country where no one has to come out because who you love doesn’t matter.

@CWM85: Colton was featured in a magazine called XY years ago that had him kissing another guy. His lawyers did everything they could to suppress it and it’s really never changed up till this day. Obviously whoever was managing him was making sure he stayed in the closet.

let’s just remember one sad reality: there is no such thing as “forcing someone to come out” – there is only forces at work that are determined to “keep a person IN”
