Good news for all you gay sports fans. Media Out Loud just launched America’s first gay sports mag: Sports Out Loud.
Of the monthly, which will include articles on events, people and training tips, Media Out Loud exec Eric Carlyle says: “We hope to serve a healthy dose of sports and fun for both the gay spectator and gay athlete.” And then peace will reign.
Editor Ted Rybka, meanwhile, can barely contain his excitement, “To put it simply, I love journalism and I love sports. I feel very fortunate to be able to combine those two worlds.” He then squealed, caught himself, adjusted his balls and strolled off as if nothing had happened.
The first issue features a bit about recovering drug addicts fighting their demons with baseball, Parisian swimmers and an eye-opening examination of Sweden’s sporting life. Fascinating stuff - if you’re into that sort of thing.
Even if you’re not into getting sweaty and throwing balls, you may still want to check out Sports Out Loud: the first issue also features amateur Dallas athletes sporting some swim suits.
You know what they say about amateur athletes: cheaper than models and twice as slutty.

There’s an old saying that if it’s worthwhile having…it’s worthwhile waiting for …and
the wait is over! I happen to be prejudice because I am one of the contributors to this worthy magazine. As a pioneer in gay politics and sports, I’ll be reporting on the “good old days”.

and great sites like “Queerty” there were athletes with vision. I played in the Gay Community Softball League of San Francisco, the first organized sports league in the country back in the earl 1970’s…today there are over 40 cities with gay sports associations. SPORTS OUT LOUD will cover gay sporting events as well as
the players and fans… and I’ll write of those
times and teams of yesteryear…
It’s like a version of OutSports.com you can hold on to! That’s awesome!
Sure, sure, sure. And straight men only buy “Playboy” for the articles and interviews with nuclear scientists. I’ll take this magazine seriously after the first issue that isn’t filled with beefcake.
There’s nothing wrong with niche marketing per se [though don’t get me started on Gay Games]. Let the Crochet Queens start their own magazine, too, if they’d like. How about the “Mika Monthly” or “Reichen Daily News”? But one did not have to hear the now apparently insane Michael Glatze’s ex Benjie Nycum talk during his recent interview with John McMullen on GAYBC about moneyed gay media’s haughty rebuff of their attempts over the years to get some financial backing for the gay youth magazine they were then paying for themselves to know that many in our community still have misplaced priorities.

Seriously, good luck to them, but I give them six issues on the outside. Too much competiton for too few ad $$.
Ick, no… I detest the fact that Men’s Health and Men’s Fitness always have to proclaim their heterosexuality by doing sex tips like “how to please her” every month — I’d love a real gay men’s health mag that’s on par in production value as MH and MF.
But this new magazine looks more like a gay Sports Illustrated than a gay MH/MF…
And yeah, Exercise For Men Only is pretty gay.
spiffy, there’s another one that’s totally a whack-off magazine. can’t remember the name, but it’s a smaller one published by some cheapo company. always guys in jocks, tiny tight shorts, underwear “working out.” It has a few perfunctory pics of guys w/women, but the ads are all ggg.

Only two of those guys look like they play sports regularly. And I’m being generous.
Ah, Rowan, I disagree with ya! These guys look exactly like they would if they stayed in shape with sports rather than working out in a gym.
That still won’t make me buy an issue, mind you, but I am glad to see pics of in-shape guys rather than buffed-up buffy models.
