Meet the Maine Pastor Trying to Nix Gay Marriage

“A leader of efforts to repeal Maine’s new gay marriage law through a people’s veto referendum said nearly 5,000 petitions have been distributed so volunteers can collect signatures. Rev. Bob Emrich told the Bangor Daily News that 8,000 petitions have been printed so far. To place the repeal question on a statewide ballot, petitioners must gather 55,087 signatures of registered voters. Emrich, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Plymouth, is suggesting people have an open house and invite friends and neighbors to sign a petition.” [WMTW]

Now why don’t we call for a referendum on removing the tax-exempt status of the pastor’s cult and any others who meddle in the political process? He’s not supposed to be advocating and advising people how to vote, so lets give him a dose of his own hate medicine by calling for a ballot intiative to compell him to pay his fair share of taxes. Nobody should be tax-exempt and nobody should be above the law. Granting tax exemptions to cults is a violation of separation of church and state and giving them special status and protection equally so. Just who do they think they are? About time our representatives grew a pair and took them on. I’m stick and tired having religious bigots shoving their religious views on the rest of us.

Alan, Robert and Schlukitz, I love all your comments. Love how this christer wants to make a big party out of his damn petitions being signed to deny a group of citizens their right to marry. Christers need to mind their own business and tend to their own lives without fucking up anyone elses!
