SMASH UP

Megan Hilty: I’d Lose Sing-Off, But Win Fistfight With Smash Co-Star Katharine McPhee

Much of the drama this season on NBC’s Smash has revolved around the competition for the lead role of Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway play about her life, specifically between Ivy (Megan Hilty) and Karen (Katharine McPhee).

Hilty chatted with us at the 2012 GLAAD Media Awards and said that, though she’s rooting for Ivy to win the role over Karen, she still thinks she’d lose in a sing-off or dance-off to Karen.

As for a fistfight: “I’d take her down,” she said, without missing a beat.

Also in attendance was Bernadette Peters, who plays Hilty’s mother on the show Peters said she had to support her fictional daughter in the Ivy vs. Karen debate.

Smash supporting cast member Phillip Spaeth also turned up at the event, and said he’d be Team Ivy too—though he could be swayed to Team Karen.

Now we’re just anxiously waiting for Katharine McPhee to weigh in on this critical matter!
