Rocking lesbian mama Melissa Etheridge put virtual pen to paper today to take on California’s Proposition 8, which hopes to overturn that state’s gay marriage. Writes Etheridge:
I believe in our democracy. I believe in our constitution. I believe we live in the greatest country in the world. I believe that we are as strong as our weakest link and if we deny any of our citizens the right to “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” then we deny it to all of us.
I will be waking up with my children on November 5th and I will be fixing them breakfast as I usually do. I look forward to telling them that prop 8 was defeated. I am sure my son will say, “Good, that was lame.”
Yes, lame indeed.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Those words mean as little as they meant when first inked. America is still a country of hypocrisy, racism, bigotry and lies. When American leaders (government) signed their names there was slavery in America, and even some of the ones who signed that document had slaves. There are still people in this country who don’t have rights. So there is no equality. The American government doesn’t give rights, it takes away rights. Our federal officials are cowards, who like the ancient rulers, passed the buck to the religious leaders, who passed the buck to the people. AND the people voted to kill Jesus. So much for religion, which seems to be running true to form. Selfish heterosexuals kill the hopes and dreams of American citizens who only want to get legally married and have the same RIGHTS as they do. Selfish is a mild word. (What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.) Man still puts himself higher than God. –Salty
