There seems to be something about the human condition that needs to "hate" something. Gays, Jews, foreigners… often why we have wars…. I think we humans just can't take responsibility. Our problems are always someone else's fault. Politicians and other leaders play on this to their advantage because otherwise we would all have to confront these things head on and actually do work and make hard choices to deal with real issues. It is always easier to blame "the other" - I'm not poor, I'm not part of this or that racial group - almost all human societies exist solely for the purpose of creating strata it seems.

Hey CitizenGeek, I grew up in the deep south and yes, they truly deeply hate us. I had so many consevative evangelical neighbors over the years who in addition to being religious were deeply racist and homophobic. I would never go back. We should have just let them cede from the union in the 1860s.

Reading about Mr. Weiner's hate-filled rantings (I have NO desire to actually listen to them) makes my mind feel as though its being pistol-whipped and burned with lit cigarettes. Did not know about the Rock Star energy drink thing. I'll cross that off my shopping list.
