We dismiss the notion of natural law and the notion that there are moral absolutes and seemed amazed when some kids make it their own morality to kill innocent children.
We diminish and even hold in contempt the natural family of a father and mother creating and then responsibly raising the next generation and then express dismay that kids feel no real connection to their families or even the concept of a family.”
Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, drawing a link between gay families and the tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, on his website.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Huckabee claims that people killing others is the result of a bad family or a “Gay” family.
Then could Huckabee please explain why his own son was fired from his job as a camp councelor for tortoring, hanging, and killing a stray dog?
http://www.pensitoreview.com/2007/12/17/details-of-huckabees-dog-torture-episode-coming-out/
Sounds like his own son has some major violent and sadistic issues and by Huckabee’s logic they must be the fault of his upbringing. Doesn’t seem like an evangelical upbringing created a very well adjusted boy does it Huck?
LaTeesha
Much like Charlie got stuck on the M.T.A. in the song made popular by the Kingston Trio, Huckabee seems to be a permanent rider on the Looney Bandwagon.
queerty1958
Just because Mike Huckabee has a more public voice than the average person doesn’t mean there is any wisdom or intelligence behind the words he speaks. It simply makes him look and sound out of touch with reality.
DanteL
Only someone with a complete and total absence of morality and sense of compassion would try and make this about anything other than our nation’s lack of access to mental health services and sociopathic obsession with guns. At one point will these tools learn that they are on the wrong side of history on damned near everything?
alterego1980
Huckabee is very smart and I would go as far as to say cunning. He parses his words very carefully. This, to me, confirms him as public enemy number 1. He isn’t loony or crazy or “beyond the pale”, he knows exactly what he does and says. He uses soft ways to explain religious sensibilities and relates them to current events. It doesn’t sound drastic but what he is really saying is that people should reject gays, divorce, women in the workplace, and any deviation from the bible. Apparently few people besides Jon Stewart are capable of deciphering his message for the garbage it is. More people in media should be calling him out for the things he says.
Robert
And one can PRESUME that he may be insinuating that some of these poor kids were from same-sex marriages? How sick can one mind be let alone the ppl who believe him. Soon all the old bigots will be dead and life will be better for it.
1EqualityUSA
New bigots will sprout up like mushrooms. Huckabee is a spore-monger. His son hung a dog in a tree and tortured it. I wonder what kind of family creates that prize.
Little-Kiwi
cam thanks for that heinous link.
yes. lesbians marrying caused this. nothing at all to do with violent sociopaths like Huckabee’s own son.
Wilberforce
He’s not looney at all.
He’s just using us to distract attention from the real issues. The media have been doing this for decades, with an endless parade of fundamentalists blaming us for everything from hurricanes to last night’s overdone pot roast.
If we only had leaders who would point out our massive contributions, from logic to democracy to Von Stueben to Turing to the shaved look for balding men.
Instead, we obsess over looks to the point where we can’t recognize brains or competence.

Mike Huckabee is responsible for more murders than gay marriage ever will be. For instance, the 4 police officers murdered by Maurice Clemmons in 2009, a scant 5 years after then-Governor Huckabee pardoned Clemmons and commuted his 95 year prison sentence.
There is also Wayne Dumond, a convicted rapist, who Governor Huckabee helped secure the release of in 1999, commuting his prison sentence to time served. The following year, on September 20, 2000, Mr. Dumond raped and murdered Carol Sue Shields.
For those keeping track on their murder responsibility score card, that’s —
Mike Huckabee: 5
Gay Marriage: 0
FIVE PEOPLE who, if not for Mike Huckabee’s very poor judgement, would be alive today.
Mike Huckabee has no shame.
2nd Class Citizen
Huckabigot missed one thing, Adam Lanza was raise by a heterosexual mother and father.

2nd Class Citizen, your sign-on name is priceless. I would bet that YOU are responsible for last night’s over-done pot roast!

I am confused… if God is punishing people for GLBT marriage… why doe God take it out on the straights… and not us??
Very Sad that Huck uses God and GLBTs to try and explain what happened.
Charlie in Charge
I love how these people think it makes sense to blame gays for this but then freak out if you blame the NRA.
BJ McFrisky
Did I miss something? Did Huckabee say something against gay people in this statement? Looked to me like he simply stated his belief that a kid has a better chance in a traditonal family. Either I missed something, or you guys are reading into this something he didn’t actually say.
JAW
@BJ McFrisky:
I think you did BJ… “We dismiss the notion of natural law and the notion that there are moral absolutes”
The huck thinks that GLBT’s act against his version of natural law ech time we make love.
He also suggests that anyone that does not follow what he sees as Moral… is Immoral
I do not follow his view of natural law or some of his views on morality.
Does this help?
BJ McFrisky
@JAW: Again: You’re drawing a lot of subtext from his statement. He never said that anyone who doesn’t align with his morality is immoral. You say “He thinks that . . . ” without him actually stating anything specific, so all you’re doing is assuming, because you have no idea what he thinks. He never said “It’s the fault of homosexuals,” and unless he does, I’m going to take the high road and not presume that the religious right is always attacking me. Feel free to disagree, but I have to have pity on anyone who thrives off of non-statements like this. The above comments indicate to me that you guys are just looking for a fight, facts be damned.
JAW
@BJ McFrisky:
I guess that you have been living under a rock for that last couple of years… He has been fighting against GLBT rights for years. I suggest that You search… huckabee gay etc… see what comes up.
What he does is write in code… he writes to the far right… They get what he is saying… sadly you do not
Here is the full text of his statement along with some others
http://www.salon.com/2012/12/17/huckabee_blames_gays_for_the_newtown_massacre/
I am not sure why you are coming to his defense
dab822
mmmk. two points
i don’t see any anti gay family stuff in this quote
and
for the record
this gay man has to consciously and with some effort deliberately refocus when the thought of what happened in CT comes to mind or face the prospect of spontaneous tears as result of what has occurred
while i simply hate the religious right as much as they hate me
i will not take the opportunity to do things with context free quotes the way “they” do to the left
oh, and huckabee’s boy is a crazy piece of …. aside from it all
gaym50ish
I don’t see Huckabee’s statement as a direct slam at gay people or gay families. It appears to me that he’s just advocating for better parenting.
Much MORE outrageous was the statement by James Dobson. He said on his radio program that a shift away from traditional values — specifically referring to gay marriage and abortion — has “allowed God’s judgment to fall on us.”
I would love to have called in to that radio show to ask Dobson if he really thought the shooter was doing God’s work by killing 20 first-graders. Is he really suggessting that the shooter was carrying out “God’s judgment”?
JAW
@gaym50ish:
@gay… what does he mean by We dismiss the notion of natural law?
and what does he mean by… and the notion that there are “moral absolutes”
They sound like code to me about something not good… esp when you read the entire article
hf2hvit
So what does that fatass have to say about the shootings in CHURCHES? Not enough “god”? Wrong “god”?
Someguy
He said no such thing. This headline was designed to rile people up. He could just as easily be talking about the crisis of single mothers, absentee fathers, parents who have to work multiple jobs and can’t be home much, any kind of non-traditional, mom and dad, Norman Rockwell-style of parenting.
Someguy
PS: He didn’t say Gays Caused Newtown, so you can remove the quotes from the headline.

@Someguy:
Thank you, guys, for showing me that I’m not the only one who sees no attack on us in Huckabee’s statement. Like I said, it seems people are intentionally taking his words out of context in an attempt to attack him. I mean, don’t we have enough uphill battles without manufacturing ones?
Mjl-428
obviously he didn’t say gays caused the newtown massacre but he clearly takes a shot and unlike some of the other idiots, can hide some of his intentions.
“We diminish and even hold in contempt the natural family of a father and mother creating and then responsibly raising the next generation and then express dismay that kids feel no real connection to their families or even the concept of a family.”
he does take a shot at gays yet again without outright saying it because it’s veiled pretty well.
then I read his entire post on his website:
http://www.mikehuckabee.com/mike-huckabee-news?ID=70415326-e438-41e4-9972-467097d2029f
I suggest you all read it as well if you haven’t, that way it doesn’t seem like queerty’s trying to simply make a scandal again. he does blame gays for the shooting, but we’re listed among the list of what’s wrong here. while I might agree with some points, there are others that he needs to keep mum about because they make no sense
Little-Kiwi
You’ll have to excuse McFrisky. his own parents are anti-gay and so he equates anti-gay ideologies with “family love”
he’s kinda sick in the head.
Cam
I see that the Log Cabin Republicans are still desperately clinging to the only thing they have left to them….
Trying to shill for the GOP and trying to cover up the outright bigotry of the party.
It’s a shame that you have become so subservient to your role as republicans that you feel it is better to hide the bigotry and hatred rather than work to change it.
Clark Cooper really damaged your organization, under Patrick Guarino the group championed the rights of gays and took on the party trying to keep it from becoming more anti-gay. With him gone and your new leader letting the party know that not only wouldn’t he fight them, but he would try to cover up their bigotry, there is nothing stopping the party from becoming more and more hateful.
Your jumping in pretending that Huckabee is a warm and fuzzy loving guy just proves the point. Your energies could be better spent.
Someguy
Pointing fingers, making assumptions, personal attacks. Situation normal in little girl land. This article is titled and written to make you believe that someone said gays caused Newtown, when the person in question said no such thing. Agree with him or not, he didn’t say it. Oh wait, it’s all in code. Better break out my decoder ring. It was said by a republican so it’s definitely hateful. And he used the word family and that’s their code for “burn all the fags”. And it’s about a national tragedy so he’s clearly pointing the finger at us. It’s all clear now.
DanteL
@Someguy & BJ: Clearly reading comprehension is not a strong point and I know you have to defend these stooges somehow but come on…you can’t be this dumb. You don’t have to outright say something to have a clear meaning but this was pretty direct. I don’t know how much more pointed this statement can be and, don’t forget, it was said in DIRECT RELATION TO THIS SPECIFIC ATTACK:
“We diminish and even HOLD IN CONTEMPT the natural family of a father and mother…” Mother and father implying that this is the standard of parenting and the only one that somehow produces okay children. “Natural” family…what, exactly, is natural? He’s implying that ANYTHING beyond a mother-father is not natural…ABNORMAL…deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is UNDESIRABLE…so same sex parenting is not only unnatural but is contemptible and undesirable (as are single parents, grandparents raising children and so forth…if you were to assume he was talking about everything outside mother/father tradition). But that’s not an attack at all of course.
“…then express dismay that kids feel no real connection to their families or even the concept of a family.” So because a child was not raised in a mother/father family, they don’t understand the concept of family and will somehow turn into…killers of mass destruction? Remember, this comment was made IN DIRECT RESPONSE to this series of events.
I grasped reading comprehension pretty early. It’s not that hard to understand…unless you clearly don’t want to.

When Huckabee’s not choking down chicken at Chik-fil-A on Chik-fil-A appreciation day, he’s on Faux Noise ranting about gays “Huckabee wrote on [an Associated Press] questionnaire that AIDS research was receiving an unfair amount of federal money. Instead, he said celebrities should pay for the research.
“In light of the extraordinary funds already being given for AIDS research, it does not seem that additional federal spending can be justified,” Huckabee wrote, according to the AP.
“An alternative would be to request that multimillionaire celebrities, such as Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and others who are pushing for more AIDS funding be encouraged to give out of their own personal treasuries increased amounts for AIDS research.”
[…]
Huckabee also wrote that he wanted to quarantine AIDS patients, according to the AP:
“If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague…. It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.” [Politico, 12/8/07]
Someguy
@DanteL: I hate to break it to you, but anything besides a mother and father IS unnatural as it takes both a sperm (male/father) and an egg (female/mother) to produce a child. What happens after that is up for debate, but it’s hard to beat a loving mom and dad. Just ask most child psychologists. The rest of your response is pure drivel straight from a protest meeting on Castro St. I regret to inform you that emotions and fashions will not change facts. Again, as loathsome as some people might think he is, Huckabee did not say “Gays caused Newtown” as the title implies. Looking for code words and dog whistle statements in everything is paranoia.
DanteL
@Someguy: I’ve actually never been to a protest meeting on Castro St. so I wouldn’t know what that looks like. But I do know what basic lack of reading comprehension and trolling looks like and clearly I’m looking at you. I’m sorry that the reading context portion of your basic education was so faulty. It’s a shame really. Clearly you have no idea what you’re talking about but that’s okay because I’m going to humor you. I’m in that kind of mood with Christmas and everything. The act of sperm meeting an egg is not what we’re talking about in terms of being unnatural but let’s go there. If a gay couple chooses surrogacy and one of them is the sperm donor and they choose a woman’s egg, how are they then not natural? I mean your definition of natural is sperm meets egg. Their sperm met an egg. So…your theory (and I use that term very, very lightly) doesn’t even pass the basic comprehension test. Other issues: Sperm can meet an egg in a Petri dish. Sperm can meet an egg without actual penetration if there is seminal fluid leakage near a woman’s vagina. Sperm is meeting egg. IVF…sperm meets egg. Even folks who are adopting children…the child is a product of sperm meeting egg. Natural. If a woman is raped and is impregnated by her rapist…is that natural? I mean by your definition of sperm meets egg it would be but no sane or even remotely thoughtful person would consider that “natural.” And most of us, with the exception of you, BJMcWTF and your faulty reading comprehension skills, are talking about parenting. That is different than biology.
DanteL
“There is considerable evidence that both lesbians and gay men want to be in strong, committed relationships [and] are successful in creating these partnerships, despite difficulties created by social prejudice, stigma, and the lack of legal recognition for same-sex relationships in most parts of the U.S.,” said UCLA psychologist Anne Peplau, co-author of a book chapter on the subject published in the 2007 Annual Review of Psychology. Study after study after study after study, by real child psychologists and people who do stuff called science and research, have repeatedly stated that there is no difference between that of a “traditional” home with a mother and father and that of a same sex household…if anything their studies are beginning to show some advantages to same sex parenting. Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting stated that gay parents “tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they CHOSE to be parents.” In a 2010 review of VIRTUALLY EVERY STUDY ON GAY PARENTING, New York University sociologist Judith Stacey and University of Southern California sociologist Tim Biblarz found no differences between children raised in homes with two heterosexual parents and children raised with lesbian parents. Lots of studies by lots of real scientists and sociologists and people who actually know how to read and a summation that there’s no difference in lesbians and there’s probably no difference in gay men either. You’ve learned well from the tools at Faux News. Just say things and whamo! they’re true! Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who can, like, read and stuff. And, last time I checked, Adam Lanza had hetrosexual parents, both of whom loved him and raised him in a traditional mommy/daddy home for most of his life(until 2009 to be exact), so your point is completely and totally moot. Merry Christmas!
