Military Forces Soldier to Pull Offensive Video Off Facebook For Shoddy Camera Work

Spc. Robert A. Rodriguez, an American soldier based in Alaska, uploaded this video to his Facebook profile with the note, “I was bored in Iraq. So I kept myself entertained.” In the video, which news reports have been quick to note they cannot confirm it’s Rodriguez speaking, a man asks two Iraqi boys if they’re going to grow up to be terrorists and faggots. He’s been ordered to take it down, because homey don’t play that.

These are brave men we should be ever so proud of. All together now, “Resource wars and land grabs *destroy* lives and freedom.”

@whatever: Right on. How ironic the Human Rights Campaign is taking a stand for everyone to fight wars.

Just read the comments sections in both the articles. People overwhelming are defending the guy, or trashing the kids, or saying it’s really no big deal taunting kids whose “freedom” we supposedly secured.

Being the military means complete or total impunity for any vile acts you commit while in uniform be they harassment or war crimes. No other institution in the US is given absolute reverence whether deserved or not. Not a shabby deal.

@whatever: This mentality is best shown by Jack Nicholson in a Few Good Men. These people think that they bequeath freedom (which is false to begin with), so they have a right to abridge it whenever. This is how fascists think.

Governments recognize rights, but governments are not the source of them. If they are then rights become privileges which can be taken away.
